I feel like this conversation was bound to come up. Any brides on here that are *starting* to get a little alarmed/concerned that the virus might interfere with their wedding? Do they even offer insurance on these kinds of things? I’m not as concerned or panicked as the people in Costco that are stuffing their carts with TP, but I AM wondering if any other brides have a back up plan?

Just so you are aware, I read on CBC that travel medical insurance won't cover any coronavirus-related scenarios abroad because the government has warned against all non-essential travel. If anyone gets sick in Jamaica, they could be on the hook for tens of thousands of dollars. There are also people currently stranded abroad, trying to get home before borders close, which is likely to happen. The government is urging everyone to get home immediately before they no longer can. I know this is all so horrible and unimaginable... We are cancelling our destination wedding that we were supposed to leave in 3 weeks for. It's heartbreaking, but I want to make sure you have all necessary information before electing to go through with it! My heart goes out to you.
We are 12 days away from our wedding and are considering postponing it. We will have a decision tomorrow

I’m also getting married on the 23rd of May and we are worried about family and friends travelling to Calgary! I’m feeling good about the chances that this all gets sorted and the flights resume. But who knows.

I agree Kara! I’m staying as optimistic as possible and having more conversations about how excited we are for the wedding vs worrying if it’s going to happen due to the virus. I’m staying calm and after reading all the messages in the thread, I understand why some people with nearing weddings may have cancelled or postponed, but its calming and helpful to see tons of other brides that are still carrying on with their plans.

I’m not sure if you’re aware but the government has asked you to stop all non-essential travel outside of Canada until May 1. Yes it is a strong suggestion rather than a command at this point, but I’m unsure as to why you would want to risk so many peoples safety?

Just stay away from Social media and the news as much as possible, and educate those I come into contact with who are focused on the panic mentality. There’s no need to be panicking and hoarding food and toilet paper!! Lol... and when I have discussions with friends, we talk about other stuff!! Like weddings 🙂 I’m sorry you’re going through the stress of all this
We have just made the decision to cancel our April 4th wedding. A tough decision but we feel it was the best to protect elder family members and family and friends with weakened immune systems.

Honestly I started the week not too concerned about it all and figured by the time our wedding rolls around it would have all calmed down. However after reading a lot of these comments, I’m getting a little nervous as my wedding is May 15th in Mexico and I’m seeing that people who have a later wedding within Canada have cancelled due to the virus. I’m not sure if I should be worrying more than I am or not? So far our travel agent/wedding planner isn’t too concerned as flights down south are still running as normal and she thinks that by the time May comes around, the virus would have died down. My fiancé and I have spoke about what we would do in the event of us having to postpone the wedding, we figured we’d see if everyone could still go in November, but unfortunately the policy our travel agent has is the group has to make the decision as a whole meaning the only way not to loose out on money is to not cancel unless we decide to cancel the whole thing. Basically if our guests decide to cancel now on their own accord, if they didn’t purchase travel insurance they wouldn’t get their money back... fingers crossed the virus dies down as quickly as it came around. What’s everyone’s tactics to staying positive about this all? I feel like wherever I go it’s all doom and gloom.

Genny, this was very reassuring. Mine is April 18th in Ontario and maybe it’s the stress mixed with anxiety but I was getting sick thinking about everything that’s going on. I’m glad to hear that your vendors are able to make the day work. I’m hoping and praying it clears fast.

Sooke is so beautiful!! We need a miracle right about now! So Stressful.
I was not so worried until one of my guests told me that it doesn't look good!! I told her that I didn't need an additional stress :-) I think we still have time. Let's be positive!
I wouldn't be worried for those who have planned on getting married beginning of June. We are not super worried and we are confident that things will be settle by then. So far we are waiting 1 month before our wedding to make a decision. Should we postponed, our venue doesn't have any Saturdays available :-(
I am trying not to get nervous, especially where I still am about 6 months out, but it is hard not too be a little bit.
My date isn't until the end of August, but we have sent out our first round of invitations with the RSVP deadline by the end of March. I am expecting either a lot of no's that would otherwise be yes's OR a lot of people pushing to RSVP much closer to the date. Most of them are within Canada but out of province. I want everyone to be safe, but all but halting anything reliant on numbers until very close to the wedding is not something that will help my stress/anxiety.
Also, the latest news about COVID-19 in Canada shows the end date (depending on the "flattening of the curve") being anywhere from April to October. It makes it near impossible for anyone to really make a proper plan B...frustrating.
Right now, my FH and I have the plan of just ensuring we have the two legally required witnesses and anyone else who can make to be legally married at a small alternate location with a possible stream like Skype that others can log into if they want. We'd then have a reception at a later date at our current venue with the larger list.
It's right in our venue's contract that, as along as we give them 60 days, we can reschedule for another available date within a year of the original booking. They are our caterer too so it's a feasible plan B. Hoping we don't have to use it though.
We were supposed to get married in Elora, Ontario on June 7. We have now cancelled the wedding because we are very concerned about putting our family and friends including our elderly family members with underlying family conditions at risk. We have guests that were supposed to fly in from Vancouver, BC, Europe, U.S. and Mexico which added to the additional layer of concern such as possibility of not being able to return home if border is closed..etc. With all these worries, we decided to cancel. Our biggest deposit is for the wedding venue and we have been stressed about not being able to get it back. Our wedding venue was not very proactive in working with us but they have finally agreed that they will allow us to postpone. The catch is that it has to be rescheduled for another date in 2020 and they are going to charge us the June season price for winter.. I understand that this situation is less than ideal for everyone involved but I really wish that even as businesses that everyone can understand that this is not an opportunity to take advantage but rather to extend compassion and understanding. Has anyone else run into the same issue with postponement?
I know this won’t pertain to all of you but I read this on alberta.ca and it made me feel much better as I don’t have international family and the few seniors could stay home for their own safety. The amount of guests is under 250 as well. Hoping this can bring peace of mind for some of you 💕
We are slightly concerned as our wedding is April 11th in Ontario. as of right now all our vendors are reassuring us that we can make the day work and most of our guests are still planning to come especially after updating them on out precautions. We have just 44 guests and should we need to our venue is willing to postpone. We are crossing our fingers that the number of cases don't continue to increase over the next two weeks. For some of the couples who don't have insurance look into Force Majeure.

Watch the news in Jamaica but a tip people are most at risk right now when travelling south when they are at the airports, as thats large number of people, everyday. If you resort is fine then once you get there, just proceed with normal hygiene, and try to relax and enjoy the trip! If you are a worrier you could call the resort an ask what cleaning measures they have taken to prevent CoVId 19
If anyone can’t come you could try and set up a live stream for them?

Incase you don’t know most things are made in China or parts of things, however it actually is a bit reassuring when you here the date frames are extended. So before the news got big in North America China had closed all factories for almost 6 weeks. (Including there New year holidays) This means everything got behind, and now the better factory or high price you pay you know it is coming from a factory that is taking extra time to prevent anyone for getting sick. I know through work one factory that we deal with has employees do temperature checks 3 times a day and has extreme cleaning measures daily. Which is what you want, you want them to be extra cautious. However it does suck that we have to plan further ahead. Hopefully that makes the frustration alittle more understandable
I'm worried more about other brides and not so much myself. My wedding is next summer so all is good HOWEVER I have been wedding dress shopping and many of the shops are saying "order now because of the virus. Dresses are estimating taking up to 18 months at the latest" Which freaks me out. Also kind of pisses me off that these expensive dresses are coming from China....

We’re doing our honeymoon in St Lucia in July!! It’s too bad you’re having to cancel hopefully you’ll get a chance to go there soon!
Our wedding is April 4,2020 in Saskatchewan. We have already started the process to cancel our honeymoon to st Lucia for the end of April. Still trying to decide if we postpone or what to do for the wedding. Will still legally get married on the day, even if we just have a JP come to the house and a friend witness. So stressful. A years worth of planning to possibly have it postponed or for it to not be the day of your dreams
I am stressing myself out about my Jamaica destination wedding in two weeks. Everything is non-refundable at this point because it’s so close and I don’t have wedding insurance. I just found out that it existed a few days ago. At this point, we are still going through with everything and telling everyone to be careful. We really don’t want to lose the 15K we spent for this day. Otherwise, we won’t be able to have a wedding at all. There’s no way we can save the money again to have another one or postpone it. I hope the borders will be open and airports won’t close down.
My wedding is May 25. I'm getting a bit stressed out but I'm more concerned about my birth mother and sister who are in Spain right now and have their tickets to come in May. If it gets worse I don't mind to postpone if vendors can be emapthetic. I hope all of this precautions and lockdowns take traction so we can prevent the spread. Praying for everything to work out and I hope it works out for all of you brides to be 🙏🥂
