Planning Milestones - what came first?

We've got a lot of new brides/grooms that have joined the Wedding Wire community so I wanted to give a massive warm welcome and see how everybody is doing thus far!

So of course you are engaged now - or maybe you plan on being engaged soon - OR you are already married and can't get enough of this site like me Smiley tongue

Other than the actual proposal and celebrations what milestones have you reached? Any in sight?

For me and my DH, the first thing that we locked down was our Venue (Rivers Edge Resort - Elma MB) Smiley smile

Next came the Food, buying my dress, finding a DJ for our wedding as well as our Wedding Social, etc.

What was everybody's first planning milestone? Did you pick your venue first? Maybe you selected a date first and then the venue followed? Any pics are welcome - especially if it was booking your photographer and have engagement pics or maybe it was picking out your dress/suit and you have pictures of that!!

Share away - and if you don't have your first vendor booked or bought yet, what are your plans?

That's true since most of the other vendors need to know the location they would have to go to in order to figure out travel as well it's just nice to have it all ready for them rather than just a "most likely this date - but we would have to make sure whatever venue we go with has that date available!".

Do you know what kind of invitations you will be going with yet? That was one of my favourite things to look at while planning Smiley tongue They all look so pretty and you can usually customize them to your specifications where ever you get them Smiley smile

It's crazy right? Like we all are told that you will have that "this is the one" moment when finding a dress - but I feel like we had that moment with finding our venue as well Smiley tongue

Haha nice Smiley xd for the venue that my Husband and I chose - we went to the venue for a tour of the land and to look at blueprints... the venue wasn't built yet... lol but based off that alone, on the drive home we talked and basically 5 minutes into the drive we were thinking "why didn't we sign the agreement then and there????" lol. Had my Dad go back with me and my DH to "okay" it (I trust my Dad's opinion SO MUCH - bit of a Daddy's girl) and he loved it too!

Was there something about the venue that you just KNEW that you needed it? Or was it more so a knowledge of how far in advance venues book up?

Totally get that - we had some guests bring their trailers/ 5th wheels to the wedding and stayed the night that way Smiley tongue Otherwise most of our guests opted for the bus we rented to take them to the wedding and then back to the city (surprising amount of people were really happy about that!)

Actually I'm not from Elma - just where I got married Smiley tongue Way cheaper an hour away from the city lol

Born in Brandon (MB), live in Winnipeg (MB), married in Elma (MB), and have family in Dauphin/Garland/Ethelbert (MB)!

First thing we did was choose the month & year and the colour, but the venue was first to be booked.

We had one weekend where we decided on our venue, I found my wedding dress, and we had engagement photos done!

From there we have slowed down significantly. Cake is next. I can't wait to eat trial cupcakes!

We locked in our venue before anything else - it seemed like they were booking up quickly and picking other vendors was easier once we knew where the location was. Next big milestone will be sending the invites!

We did our reception venue first - we booked it before we were even engaged. We just had to have it and didn't want to lose it by waiting until we were officially engaged. We knew what date we wanted and luckily, it was still available.

I'm pretty sure we (Ok, it was me) picked the ceremony location first. I went with our daughter to this guided nature hike there and I thought "I want to get married here". Luckily, Dave agreed it was perfect!

Lol we have chicken and beef but each guest will be able to have both. Having a room for out of town guests and having ceremony at same place were on our must have list.

We booked our venue before we were actually engaged. And we knew who we wanted to marry us. After we were engaged, I found my dress, we booked our photographers, bridesmaids dresses, then decided no DJ, florist, hair and make-up, mens suits.

Sometimes you just know, I always refer to him as my hubby, just so much easier. That sucks they're so behind, but it'll be so nice to have that officially done.

Btw I just seen you're from Elma, such a small town, I was actually there once with my ex step dad lol

Oh wow! I mean, we don't have kids - yet - but I totally get that feeling of already married Smiley tongue I proposed to my Husband just 10 months into the relationship and then we bought a house like 6 months later Smiley tongue All of our friends were referring to us as Husband and wife for a solid year before we actually tied the knot 😂

As for the name change - still waiting on that :/ Manitoba Vital Statistics are over 3 months behind on marriage certificates... mine should be sent in the next month or so though! lol Then I can officially go from Tori Kamfoly to Tori Doll Smiley xd

It feels so surreal that it's actually happening. Part of me feels like we are married (been together 6yrs, lived together 5, have 2 kids & just bought a house). But I can't wait to make this commitment for real in front of our family & friends & to take his name.
I know! I couldn't believe when I found one that I loved & for it to be such a good price! My MIL pretty almost bought it for me as I wasn't planning to buy that day lol

We picked our venue first, long before we got engaged! Then when we went, we had such a wonderful experience that we had to book it. It was like a dream come true.

I would have loved that! I'm all for 1 and done (lol kind of like me finding my DH Smiley tongue), but my Husband wanted a place that would allow us our own food and beverages so that we could not only lower cost but use our family friends for bartending as well as not get stuck with the usual chicken or beef as food options.

Well after 3.5 years of engagement I would assume it feels good to get everything all set up and planned eh? I know that I thought I had a long engagement (1 year and 10 months) but I couldn't wait to get planning and we booked our venue less than 2 months into the engagement Smiley tongue

Nice find on the dresses by the way!! I plan on eventually going to a consignment store for my dress... just need to fill out a form but they ask for so much information! lol

Our first milestone was the venue. At least it took care of food, ceremony space and the bar all in one.

Can't remember exactly what was our first milestone as we've been engaged for 3.5 yrs lol but I think it was deciding on our ceremony location (park 5min walk from our house). Date 07.18.20, reception venue. In the last few months we got our catering, photographer, & sent save the dates. Also I bought my dress early, wasn't planning on it, but went looking when my mom was visiting 2yrs ago & found a dress that I loved & was only $200, my mom is also getting married & she found her dress for $70 lol
