Wedding Social Complete!

Tori, on April 4, 2019 at 10:15 Posted in Before the wedding 1 21

Hello lovelies!

So as some of you may know - March 29th was my Wedding Social!!!

Although there were some hiccups along the way I would say it was a huge success and highly recommend that all Manitobans follow through with having one even though it is more work than planning the darn wedding itself!

For those of you who need any help - I am here for all the questions. For those who just want to see what it was like and what all happened feel free to keep reading.

Wedding Social Complete! 1

So right away you can see on our tickets that the social started at 9... people started arriving at 8:15... so that was fun...

Here is what the community centre looked like at 10:30PM (only a hour and a half into the social):

Wedding Social Complete! 2

We had a Texas Mickey of Smirnoff Vodka:

Wedding Social Complete! 3

The drinks that we had available were:

Beer (Bud Light, Kokanee, and Coors Banquet)

Tequila

Vodka

Fireball

Spiced Rum

Red/White wine

Gin

Whiskey

And here are a list of the prizes:

Regular prizes ($250-$300 value each)

1. Wine (large decorative wine glass from costco, wine, bottle opener, etc.)

2. Lottery Tree (...lottery tickets... on a tree....)

3. Fitness (fitbit, gym memberships, protein powder, shakers, etc.)

4. Scandalous (....y'know... from stores like Love Nest... wink-wink stores...)

5. Fun Night In (popcorn machine, movies, Netflix GC, candy, etc.)

6. Scentsy/Spa (wax warmers, GC for Thermea Spa, etc.)

7. Coffee/Tea (Keurig, Mugs, Tea Pot, etc.)

8. Games (whole bunch of board games!)

9. "Tori" (blender and tequila for margaritas!)

10. Gardening (4X8 garden box, seeds, gloves, etc.)

11. Car Stuff (GC for oil change, car detailing items, air fresheners, etc.)

12. Dog's Life (dog bed, treats, Pawsh Dog GC for daycare + pawdicures, etc.)

Grand Prizes ($500-$750 value)

1. Beauty (Spa-facial, cut+colour for hair, lotions, body wash, etc.)

2. Kitchen Kit (pots & pans, bake set, waffle maker, slow/fast cooker, knives, glass carafs, etc.)

3. Ecopoxy Table (my dad made one with blue crushed glass, it's a side table size)

4. Baba's Freezer (a freezer, perogies, holupchi, cheese rolls, beet leaf buns, sausage)

5. "Kael" (tools and beer)

6. Man-Pamper (MANicure, hair cut at barber shop, paintball, movies, beard oils/wax, ties, socks, etc.)

Golden Prize ($1,500-$2,000 value)

Backyard Bonfire (fire pit, picnic table made by my FH, Karaoke DJ, $500 off buying a canoe, $100 GC to Rae & Jerry's, etc.)

Wedding Social Complete! 4

(Wine glass is upside down because the bottom breaks easily but the top is heavily surrounded by cardboard inside the box - found that out the hard way when we first bought one and had to return it because we didn't check the bottom, only the top.)

We also had 50/50 going as well as a draw for the people who bought support tickets which was a prize of $200 cash!

At 11PM we put out the food which were social food platters (Rye bread, cheese cubes, pickles, deli meat, chips, pretzels, and the condiments) and called the winners at midnight. Only one prize was unclaimed so we went around the tables looking for the winner and eventually found out it was our next door neighbour who didn't realize he won something!

10/10 would not have one again, but 10/10 was so worth it not only for a good party, but a good profit as well Smiley smile

Night well done!Wedding Social Complete! 5

(Yes, I am wearing my engagement ring around my neck - so many people it was warm enough to make my fingers swell!)

It so so weird how similar a Stag & Doe/ Buck & Doe is to a Wedding Social - yet so completely different they are! (I definitely like socials more, but I may be bias...)

Beyond happy it's over with!!! NEVER AGAIN!! Wedding Socials are probably the #1 reason for not getting divorces - nobody every wants to do one again!!!

We really wanted to but we didn't realize our social was during spring break so we will do that some other time to avoid the kids... well, my age Smiley tongue (I'm 21)

Wow! Sounds like an amazing night! Those were some amazing prizes! So much better than any stag and doe I’ve been to!
I grew up in Ontario and lived there until 5 years ago, so have attended many. But, I’m kind of glad they don’t do them in Alberta! The wedding was enough attention on me!

YAY!!!! I'm so happy for you! Bet you're glad to be on the other side of it now eh? I know I sure was! We did ours on New Years Eve, then spent New Years day at Thermea, which I HIGHLY recommend as a good, and well deserved day of relaxation after the madness!

Wow, what an incredible turn out! We don't really do wedding socials where I live, so I think it's really interesting how the entire community gets involved. I'm glad it was a success!

For Ontario, I feel like it won't be around much longer. They have changed the rules recently and you can't do 50/50 and a lot of games you would have in the past. Now you mainly have to rely on raffle as the source of money making

So much work! Community Centres book almost a year in advance - and then you have to start going door to door to see how much you can get donated by businesses. Some don't donate, some do, and some get so many requests that they do a monthly draw!

Yet food... you can order that with as little as 48 hours notice... Still don't understand how...

They are massive - drinks are $3 each, prizes are $$$ and we go hard! lmao

One prize at a social I attended was a hot air balloon ride, another one I heard of was a Canoe! My social was 300 people but my sister has been to a Filipino wedding social....MASSIVE...

For sure, I have even been to socials where a single person won 3-5 prizes and by the 4th he was asking them to just redraw because he felt so bad!!

    One and Done! Yes!

It's insane how much bigger and better socials are getting - one social I went to was over 1,000 people and their Golden Prize was worth $10,000!!

(Our max. capacity was 300 people and we sold out a month before - we for sure could have sold 500 no problem)

I have never attended a wedding social before, it's not a thing in Alberta as far as I know, but wow that looks like you put a lot of work into it!

WOW! This looks amazing. Makes me wish I lived in Manitoba to come! I agree with Becky, the ones that I have gone to in Ontario there are a lot of smaller prizes, and I always tend to win the thing I put one ticket in and didn't really want lol.

So glad it went well! And you only have to do it once right lol.

We have opted to not do a stag and doe. FH Sister and Brother in law did one when they got married and it was a ton of work for them. So needless to say no one in our wedding party was really jumping up and down to do one lol

Tori! I am so happy it went well for you and your prizes sound amazing! I have went to few in Manitoba and they always have crazy prizes. Ontario we tend to go smaller for prizes like 100 value max or sometimes larger ones of 500 for one grand prize. I bet you did well with the amazing crowd!
