How long did it take?

Brittany, on October 28, 2016 at 00:41 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 33
I just began day three of my engagement and I can't help but wonder what pace people usually plan at. I'm planning a Fall 2017 wedding and in two days I managed to:
- ask my bridesmaids to join my bridal party with a ring pop to pop the question in handmade boxes- pick out the bridesmaids dresses- purchased bridesmaids bouquets- purchase boutineeres - purchase flower girl basket- pick photographer - pick DJ- decide on invites
Start of day 3:- gown shopping appointment - possible venue selection
How long did it take before you started planning? When had you accomplished a similar amount of tasks?

Wow everyone has so much done! I was pregnant with our son when my FH proposed and I have morning sickness from beginning to end so I only started looking at things the last couple of months. I've come up with a theme I'd like, and created the rough draft of the guest list, and started searching out venues. I have some decorations in mind I just need to find them and buy them, and have an idea for invitations but need to get engagement photos done first and that won't be until next summer (I want them taken back home since our wedding will be up here. Always wanted beach wedding photos by the ocean so we'll do the engagement photos there instead). I feel that once I have a venue, the rest will be easier to sort out.

You are on a roll Brittany! I got engaged a day after you (also planning a Fall 2017 wedding), but I am nowhere near accomplishing what you already have lol.

For myself, I've drafted a guestlist, made a budget, selected the bridal party, and am about to make a deposit for a venue! Luckily my MOH has been a bridesmaid before so she knows what and when I should be doing things Smiley tongue

I'm so glad your FMIL is helping you out! That's wonderful Brittany! Smiley heart You take a look at these discussions for DIY ideas:

    Diy weekend!

10 DIY ideas with mason jars

I can't wait what ideas you'll come up with as well! You can create a discussion to share pictures of what you've been up to!

Is your FMIL also really talented with DIY? Smiley smile

Congratulations and welcome to the group. You sure have been busy planning and accomplishing things. I waited about a month after being engaged to start planning but that's only because it was still hockey season and my oldest is in rep hockey and life is really use during playoffs (it consumes every part of your life, lol). We searched for venues and I booked a wedding dress consultation and found my dress at that appointment . we ended up deciding on a destination wedding. Mostly because of cost and we have 3 boys and are paying for it ourselves. But with a destination wedding I just pick my package and that's it. So my flowers, venue, reception space and food are all picked. I have my dress already at home and our wedding part I'd picked with outfits (mind you the groomsmen have to get fitted and we have to let our oldest know he is part of the wedding party too, hehe). I have my shoes and booked my hair and make up (but it's eing done at the resort , so that is as for me).

Way to go Brittany! Smiley smileInitially, my FH and I had a discussion about getting married and he allowed me to start looking for venues a couple of months before we got engaged. I has the venue booked in June and in July he proposed to me. For three months since I got engaged. We have booked the following: Set the date for our wedding
The photographerThe bakerThe church Booked our officiant and to see him for wedding details and we'll. As per-martial classespicked out our decorations for our ceremony and just have to look at adding a few more finishing touchesDrafted the guest listDrafted our menu for the receptionPurchased my gartner and tiaraBooked my nail appointment in advance for next yearWe have picked out and confirmed our wedding partyBooked a hall for our wedding socialBooked our DJ for the wedding and our wedding socialCreated, printed and mailed out Save-The-Date cards for our out of town guestsWent to a weeding expo to get ideas for our wedding Picked out our coloursWent dress shopping for the first and now has booked a second appointment to hopefully purchase our dressBooked our videographerStill deciding on our corsage and bountineresDecided on the bouquets for the bridal party Complied a list of silent auction prizes for the wedding social Set the date for both the bridal shower and bachelorette party Now I am taking it bit easy since I feel that we are of schedule but I am happy that got the big items done first. We stil have a ways to go for resting of the wedding planning. Smiley winking

You are certainly on the ball! I've been engaged a week and all I've managed to do is draft a guest list. We aren't planning to get married until at least Fall 2018 though, as we have some saving to do first.

    You work fast girl!

I didn't start planning for about 2 weeks- my sister was getting married, so I kind of held back until she had her day.

We have my sister and brother in law as signing witnesses, and FH's brother to lead the ceremony, but those were the only people we asked to join our "wedding party"

We currently have a venue for the reception, dj, photographer and a dinner venue booked (because we are doing things in a less traditional way), and our legal officiant....on November 1 the city will be granting permits for the ceremony venue...Im so excited for Tuesday!

You are kicking my butt in the florals department! and dresses- I have done some online research, but have yet to try on a dress!

I'm going to be a downer. I just started and I've been engaged almost a year. I wanted to have a few years to enjoy being engaged. Unfortunately that was short lived. We didn't really have a chance to celebrate either, but that's ok... Just a few weeks after he proposed, my grandma fell down ten stairs and was in a coma on life support for weeks! She woke up after every doctor told us she wouldn't. And we've all been consumed with her rehab this year. But she's back! She just cannot walk Smiley sad she told me to start planning now because life is short!! And I need to have her at my wedding!

There is two bridesmaids, a maid of honour and a matron of honour. There will only be a best man and two groomsman so I have decided that the matron of honours husband will walk her down the aisle following the ceremony, followed by the best man and maid of honour and the rest of the bridal party!

Chelsea - your situation is so similar to mine! my fiancee works nights and Im in school full time and working part time. I got a lot done this week but that will change when reading week is over and I have less time. Its so hard to find time to meet vendors. I am happy to be prepared early!

Wow Brittany!! Congrats!! This is amazing!! Smiley heart You're doing so much already... Usually people are not that fast but still get quite a lot done in the first few months after their engagement.

I'd love to see how you proposed to your bridesmaids!! It sound like so much fun! Smiley love

What do the boxes you made look like?

How many bridesmaids will you have? How many groomsmen? Is your future groom keeping up with your pace? Smiley laugh
