Diy weekend!

Valerie, on October 24, 2016 at 10:03 Posted in DIY 0 19

Hey brides and grooms!

I had a very productive wedding planning weekend! I made our card box, finished my bouquet (mostly), started making the template for our custom Connect 4 centerpiece AND had a great cake tasting which I'm about 90% sureI'm going to end up going with (cake flavours: green apple cinnamon, red velvet and strawberry cream)!!

What are you excited to have checked off your list this weekend?

Haha thanks! For the characters, I just used free online avatar makers and then cleaned them up in photoshop/gimp (add a few features/characteristics and take out the backgrounds). Definitely one of my more time consumming projects (as I hand painted all those stupid white windows)... one of the ones I'm kind of hoping to keep, but will get over it if someone wants to take it home (I can always make another). You can definitely see it in the picture, the head is darker than the body (I didn't spray the head, and the lime underneath is showing through on the body). It annoys me... but not enough to really do anything about it lol Smiley xd

You are a DIY rockstar! How did you make the Guess Who characters? Can I place an order for one?! Haha but seriously! That will be such a great keepsake after the wedding! Your guests are going to go crazy for them!
The hippos look great! It looks pro from the pic so I'm sure the guests won't notice any cracking. (Us brides are just perfectionists so we notice our own mistakes!)

    Finished a few projects today!!!

First is my custom Guess Who game, I turned all of our wedding party, families and pets into cartoons used them as the characters for the game, then painted the boards to match our wedding colours. It was a lot of work, but it turned out amazing and I'm SO HAPPY with the result! I still want to laminate the character cards (the white ones in the front), but other than that it's done!

Next... I finished my Hungry Hungry Hippos game! I painted all the hippos to match the wedding colours. I tried using a sealer to protect the paint, but it backfired horribly and started lifting the paint and now if you look close, one of the hippos paint is cracked and the colour underneath shows through. Unfortunately I can't repaint it now that the sealer is there and it's far too cumbersome to remove all the paint and redo it, so I've decided I can live with it.

Lastly, these letters were actually the first item I bought for the wedding (found them on clearance!) and I finally got around to painting and assembling them. I painted them wedding colours with a coat of glitter... I LOVE how they turned out!! I tried to take a picture without the lights on, but it turned out super blurry

Those are amazing! I love the template for your centrepieces and can't wait to see them when they're finished! Did you make those flowers yourself? I'm so impressed! I have paper flowers too but I ordered them off of Etsy. There's no way I could make them that good!

Also your cake sounds DELICIOUS. Can't wait to hear more about your wedding!

Thanks! I found one on Etsy that was amazing! But it was like $100+shipping... so I was like... I can make that! Well, we'll see soon enough how that works out Smiley winking

I KNOW RIGHT!!! It was the first thing I said after I ate it. I was like... well there goes me absolutely NOT doing red velvet! But it was AMAZING! No cream cheese filling, just like a whipped cream, and there was a thin layer of raspberry with the whipped cream. Just fantastic! I was super shocked!

I was most in love with the green apple cinnamon though. It totally shocked me and was so different Smiley heart (they need to add a drooling emoji)

And thank you!! I love the excuse to try all these new projects!

So much DIY! You are putting so much personal work into your wedding- it is inspiring for the days I'm feeling a bit lazy!

Also so funny that red velvert turned out to be a favourite after we were talking about that the other day Smiley winking Your cake sounds well rounded for all tastes! Which one will you want to eat?
