Feeling overwhelmed

Johanna, on November 5, 2016 at 03:05 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 13
Hey guys.
I'm feeling extremely overwhelmed with planning our wedding. Where did everyone start first and what do you recommend when you start to feel overwhelmed again?

So far we have a DJ and a photographer. Next I am looking into viewing and booking our venues. Things are starting to look up!

Hi Johanna, I'm sorry to hear you are feeling overwhelmed. What I did was start off with the big items on the checklist by looking at the venue, photographer, videographer, DJ etc. This will depend on what vendors you will be needing on your big day. Once you have booked the big items, start on the smaller items like bouquets, decorations, Save-The-Date, etc. I also found the Wedding Wire's To-Do-List and a book I found at Chapters really helped me out as it gave ideas of a timeline to get everything for the wedding. Lastly, reach out for support with family and friends, especially those who are in the wedding party for assistance, I found that this helped me tremendously. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I take a break from wedding planning and look for fun and relaxing things to do. Hope this helps.
    Take care.

I think the worst part is that my man is more into the wedding talk and the budgeting than I am at the moment. But everything that was said is really good suggestions and I definitely will keep them in mind

Hi Johanna Welcome to the community. I'm sorry you're feeling overwhelmed, Melissa gave you a ton of great info so I'll just add to just take things one step at a time. the wedding wire checklist really helped me see that not everything needed to be done all at once and broke things done into very manageable tasks. If you're getting really overwhelmed, take a step back. Go to a nice dinner, see a movie, no wedding talk for a night/weekend and just relax. Remember that in the end you'll be marrying your best friend and that it should be a fun occasion!

    Hi Johanna!

Welcome to the WedddingWire Community! This is the right place for feeling overwhelmed Smiley smile Everyone on here has great ideas, and we are all going through similar, although quite varied journeys. Congratulations on your engagement!

Have you started any planning at all, or are you working with a blank slate right now? If you have started, let us know what you have, and we can help you build on that.

If not, I suggest you start with a guest list, and a basic budget number (does not have to be totally accurate yet, just what you THINK you want to spend).

Make the guest list long- everyone you and your finace want to attend. As you go you will have to trim the list, but I found it best to start big and narrow it down. Next consider what kind of wedding you would like- Formal sit down dinner? Buffet style? maybe even a Brunch? Based on your guest list, does that budget make sense? This quiz can help you see the ranges a bit.

Tell me how's your wedding and I'll tell you how much it will cost

Your budget and guest list will help you determine venue options, ceremony locations, and with those many of the other details will emerge as well. WeddingWire has a great tool for your planning:

    WeddingWire Checklist

You can add/ delete/ customize the list to suit your wedding, and it is good for reminding you of details you might have over looked.

My best advice when the overwhelmed feeling returns are as follows: 1- call on a loved one to help, mom, sister, MOH, anyone who you know has your back. 2- Call on your ladies at weddingwire (like you just did!) and 3- look at that list! one step at a time.

Let me know if this helps, or if you have any questions! Plese keep coming back and sharing your plans and ideas!Smiley ring
