Time off work

Kelly, on February 25, 2019 at 12:21 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 40

How many days are you taking off work leading up to your wedding day?

We want to escape to the mountains for a couple weeks following the wedding, so I'm not sure how many days I want to take off before the wedding.

In 9 whole years, my fiance haven't taken off more than a week together, so dammit, we deserve it!

I will be taking 1.5 weeks off. One week before and 3 days after. Will have honeymoon later and not right after the wedding.

We are having a destination wedding, so we're already taking quite a bit of time off. He has a pretty strict schedule with work so he is only taking off the days we are gone. I have an extra day before we leave to get everything together, but that's about it.

I asked a few of my married friends - half said take the week before off, and the other half said to take the week after off (wedding prep/spend time after all the chaos). So, I'm taking the week before off, and the week after, totaling 2 weeks. We're having some out of town relatives attend, including my mother-in-law. We need to ensure we're putting in face-time with the people we are taking time off/flying to be here to celebrate with us, and I need to make sure I have time for all the last minute stuff! I'm being as organized as I possible can, but I'll still need time to do my nails, get a wax, have time to relax! I also need to go to the gym to help with my mental health through the craziness! I'll also need to return some of the décor that we're renting.

I took a week off before and a week off afterwards. Our wedding was on a long weekend, so my husband took the following Tuesday off so that we could enjoy a short honeymoon before he went back to work on Wednesday.

Right?! I was more or less considering how long the honeymoon can be and if I'll have time left over for closer to Christmas. Smiley xd

My FH has 2 weeks off, I only took 3 days. 2 days before the wedding and 1 after. I am going to request one more day before though.

We are taking off 5 days before the wedding. We are getting married on a Thursday. The Friday before will be our last day of work. We are getting married in the mountains, so we head to our hotel on the Tuesday and get married on Thursday. We will stay at the hotel for 5 nights so head home on Sunday. We aren’t going to book our honeymoon until after the wedding. We will go somewhere a couple months after we get married. Neither of us can take more then a week off at a time lol. I wanted a couple extra days at home before the wedding so we can pack everything up to head out of town.

Wedding is Sunday, so for sure taking off Friday (I work Mon-Fri so will already have Saturday off), maaaaybe Thursday depending on what is left to do but I have had so many people offer to help already (more than I need) that I am not too fussed. My work is also very flexible so if I find out last minute I need more time not a problem. Then FH and I are taking 3 weeks off after the wedding for our Honeymoon, we will fly out the Tuesday after the wedding. Smiley smile

Kelly - you two really do deserve that time together! Wow!

Im taking 3 weeks off work! however my situation is a little weird.. I will have to quit at my current job once we get married since it's too far to drive and I'll have to pay for parking everyday which gets expensive! so I plan to give my 1 month notice on July 1st, and my wedding date is august 3rd, so Ill just take 3 weeks to vacation with my hubby and then come back home and look for a new job! its nice because we have saved up money and he is paid well, so if I don't find a job ASAP it wont be the end of the world. either that OR Ill have a job lined up for when I come home from holidays! Smiley smile we will see what happens!! cant wait to get away from the job life for a few weeks

I am taking off 4 days for the wedding itself (Thursday through Sunday, so only 2 work days), and then 2 weeks for our honeymoon.

My fiancé is taking 3 days off for the wedding itself (Friday through Sunday), and then 2 weeks for the honeymoon...BUT that is up for debate right now, since his employer is no longer honouring what they told him when he was hired, and when he confirmed 8 months ago when we went and booked/paid for our honeymoon - he might not get that time off, and we won't know for another 10 days! We literally will find out 61 days before our honeymoon, so JUST in time to cancel it. Smiley sad

Totally in the same boat as you Kelly! We’ve never taken more than a week off together to go on our annual vacation. This year, we made it a point to take at least 2 weeks off because just like you said, we deserve it!! I’ll probably take some time off in the month leading up to the wedding as well, just to ensure nothing is missed. But a solid 2 weeks+ for the honeymoon!

Our wedding is on a Saturday so I have booked the Wednesday to the Friday off...I may take the Tuesday off as well because we have family coming in from all over the world that week...there will be lots of meet ups and such, as well as Easter happening- plus getting ready for the wedding, and the rehearsal and such.

FH is taking the Thursday and Friday off...though hoping to get the Wednesday off as well.

    Lol yup!

We're definitely flying to our honeymoon destination (Miami) but deciding to whether or not to fly or drive from Tbay to London. Leaning towards driving for a few different reasons - one of them is not having to worry about luggage restraints

Oh man, your WEDDING is an 18 drive! I thought you meant the Honeymoon. Yeah, definitely don't do that drive solo!

I'm trying to convince my FH to take an extra shift block off so we can drive down together but not sure if that's gonna happen. However, my MOH might just be able to do it, she's in school and her reading week is the week before my wedding, and she travels to Southern Ontario anyways. I'd drop her off in her howntown and trek to London myself but it's better than a whole 18 hours totally by myself.

I hear your about the travel time! We're doing Winnipeg to Banff which is nearly 15 hours. It sucks when 2 whole days of vacay are just DRIVING. But we've done it many times before, and the huge payoff is being in the mountains by the end of the day. WIN!

I'm working right up until the Thursday before the wedding (it's on a Sunday). He has worked for the company he's at for almost 17 years so he has an insane amount of seniority - he has a week before and a week after the wedding, plus 3 weeks for our honeymoon in September lol

I have booked off one day a week for the month leading up to the wedding so I have plenty of time to do wedding errands, but only 2 days before the wedding. I did this because I tend to obsess over details and need to be distracted lol

Considering we have to travel a significant ways (still debating flying or driving 18 hours), I'm definitely taking the week off beforehand. Luckily one of those days is Thanksgiving so it is already holiday pay for me Smiley sexy so I could take the Friday before the long weekend off...

That being said, we're doing 2 full weeks right after too so I'm taking my 3 week vacation time all in one go lol. My FH is taking the two weeks after the wedding for sure, but his shift block before the wedding ends Tuesday night, so he'll be off the Wednesday-Friday before.

My work/ boss is pretty understanding with everything. We are getting married Friday Oct 4, so I will for sure be taking the Friday off. I am also considering the Thursday because I will be useless lol.

My bachelorette party will also be the week before so maybe a day for that (we are most likely doing it the friday before)

I’ll only take 1 day off before our wedding. Our wedding is in the summer and my work usually slows down throughout the summer.

my boss is very understanding and if I need to leave work some days early to get prepared, I’m sure it won’t be a problem. I think the one full day will be enough time for me though.

I'm so jealous that you're having a coordinator for the month-of! I wanted one but I'm so deep into planning now that I'm just going to do it myself lol.

I guess you'll be working those 2 weeks before your mountain trip! If I had that much time off between the wedding and honeymoon, I'd definitely work a bit too Smiley smile
