Opinion on Thanksgiving weekend wedding?

Chelsea, on March 14, 2018 at 12:43 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 13
We are trying to decide between October 12 and 19 in 2019 for our wedding. We are planning outdoor so there is a better chance for good weather on the 12 however it is Thanksgiving weekend. Any opinions on if you would attend a wedding the Saturday of thanksgiving weekend?

Its a good weekend though the venue cost will be higher than usual.

We thought about doing ours on the 12th too, but ended up going with the 19th since most family is out of town and didn't want them to worry about leaving early to go home and cook dinner. We also have quite a few out of town friends too who'd normally be with their families so that was another factor in the decision making for us.

Most people do have the dinners on Sunday or Monday so they would still attend a Saturday wedding, I totally would. I think it would depend if you have a lot of out of towners too, our guests are probably 3/4 are out of town, including us! (this would have happened no matter where our wedding was lol)

My mom's wedding was also on Thanksgiving weekend. She served a turkey dinner and everyone was happy. It was a beautiful weekend too. I'd definitely attend a Thanksgiving weekend wedding as long as I didn't have other plans with family that day.

It's a great idea! I would rather party then cook lol shop around though, we are getting married thay same weekend this year (October 19th) and when I checked out the long weekend it was slightly more then our Friday, but less than a regular Saturday so it may be cheaper to do another off peak weekend

I was set on having my wedding on thanksgiving weekend this year. The original plan was to do the ceremony and have family go out for dinner on the Saturday and invite everyone (our guest list is primarily family and close friends) to come over to our home on the Sunday for thanksgiving dinner. I kinda still love this idea... but our venue was already booked Smiley sad

We had friends who got married on a Thanksgiving weekend and we went, all the way to BC from Ontario. We both missed having our family turkey dinners but we really enjoyed sharing that day with our friends.

I absolutely would granted it was not out of town.

I wouldn't mind going to a wedding on the Thanksgiving weekend - most people have their dinner on the Sunday anyways.

I think the only thing you have to be wary of is a lot of the older generation or people with families may leave a bit earlier than they normally would as they have a big day the following day to plan/cook/host Thanksgiving dinner and won't want to stay out too late or drink. You may also lose some people who travel that weekend to see their family.

I'm not sure but it may be a bit harder/more expensive to get some rentals on the Thanksgiving weekend as well?

On the other hand it may be a really nice way to have the families for a big Thanksgiving dinner and I'm sure you could find a catering company to do Turkeys with all the fixins Smiley love

I agree with Stephanie! Also, having the Saturday of a long weekend means your guests (and you!) More time to recover from the party. That's on of the reasons I'm getting married on a Friday Smiley smile

I would attend! But I don’t host thanksgiving dinner if I did I would most likely just move it to Monday instead of Sunday depending on if the wedding is out of town or not.

I did. My friend got married thanksgiving weekend and most people came. They had a turkey dinner. I think most people have their family dinners on sun or mon anyway.
