Help! Wedding Venues

Gabby, on November 22, 2016 at 21:46 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9

Looking for places in and around Edmonton, Alberta for a reception/ceremony that's not going to cost an arm and a leg; as well as a good catering company that also won't be extremly expensive.

What do you suggest?

Any great places, or service that you've experienced?

I have started looking online just for the sake of information. So far, I can tell you that community halls have a better price generally but you might need to bring in your own sound system and pay for alcohol and music licence. You can find the information about community halls on the city of Edmonton website. Check out the Alfred H. Savage Centre as it has a nice room with large windows and an hourly rental rate. Also check out the Rundle Family Centre for another venue with an hourly rate.

It will be tricky to host a wedding for so many people on your budget- but that doens't mean it can't be done!

Check out Facebook groups fro wedding buy and sell for decorations and vendors who might offer deals (I'm having a lot of luck this way!)

Have you considered a brunch buffet or luncheon? Guests tend to eat and drink less at these, and the meals are easier and more cost effective from a caterer's point of view. This might also help with a venue, if they can rent the space to you in the morning , and another bride later in the day!

If your date is flexible you might be able to take advantage of off-season pricing as well.

Hi Gabby, hope you're doing well! Smiley heart I'm sorry this has been difficult for you! The deal Samara sent you didn't work out? What other ideas did you have in mind? You should check out Lori's idea of getting married in a cottage. Maybe that could be a good option for you?

She posted about it in this discussion: How would you like your FH to dress on your big day?

How do you like the idea? Smiley smile

I'm looking at inviting around 115 people. The style doesn't really matter alot, I'm very easy going in that regard. If it's possible to do it all at one place would be awesome, but if not, it's okay. I'm looking for buffet for food. My budget for the entire thing- dress, accessories, food, etc. is 6 thousand. So with that being said, it doesn't make things easier trying to find anything. :/

However, without that info, I will mention this package that I came across, although it might still put you out of your budget. For small weddings (less than 60 people total), the Fairmont MacDonald (yes) offers a small weddings package to hold your reception and ceremony in one of the smaller rooms (in other words, not the Empire Ballroom or Wedgewood Room). The cost includes room rental, food/catering, set-up of tables etc., plus several other things. This is the link to the pdf for more information, and the contact email.

But I will see if I can think of anything else.

I'd love to help you if I can think of anything! But, first of all, how many people are you inviting? And, how much does the "theme" or "style" of the venue matter to you? Do you want to have the ceremony and reception in one place (there are pros and cons for this depending on the services the venue offers)? Do you have a specific budget in mind?

I think that the legislature grounds as well as city parks are free... you could also try Fort Edmonton Park.
