Bold or Subtle? What wedding make-up look are you going for?

Brittany, on April 4, 2018 at 20:07

I've always pictured soft and fresh make-up for my wedding. Now I'm having an evening, formal, winter wedding, and I am leaning towards some smokier/sultry make-up. What look are you going for? Is dark make-up a mistake? How dark is too dark? I'm thinking a soft smoky eye and a bold lip. Very Dark...

Aw thanks! Definitely a MUA. I'm not lifting a finger that day! Haha. Also, if I screwed up a winged eyeliner an hour before photos I would probably have a melt down.

You definitely have the features for it! Are you planning to do it yourself or hiring a MUA?

    Thank you! Smiley smile

I love the purples, I think they are a beautiful way to create a smoky, bold look without being heavy! Will definitely look great with your hair and eyes too!!

I totally agree. It's finding that balance so you don't look like a clown in person, but you still look glam in the photos! Why can't the camera see what we see?! Haha.

Also, if you are able to find a quality make-up artist, they will be able to use make-up to enhance/enlarge your features to make you look the best version of yourself! Smiley smile

Fair enough! My concern is not going bold enough, and looking like I'm not wearing make-up in my photos... I'm going to try photographing a couple different looks to see where the happy medium is! I want to look rockstar glam in my photos Smiley xd

Most hair dressers and makeup artists recommend them or for some it’s not even optional you have to do a trail. Especially for hair. Saves them you and them time on the wedding day! I would definitely tell her you want trails just to be safe!

If you have a friend who's got some make-up talent, you could play around a bit with different looks/colours. Sometimes you can really accentuate your features with that "this took 2-hours natural look" without going too heavy!

I think the key with wedding make-up isn't how much you have on, but the quality and longevity of it. Also, photographing yourself with a couple different looks might help too. My cousin looked very natural in her photos, but more made-up than I've ever seen her in person. Not in a bad way, just that camera needs more make-up than the naked eye to get the same look.

Every time I see a bride with a red lip, I think of how glamorous she looks! If you can pull off the colour, I think it's a great option!

My older sister wants to "give me" my hair and make-up for the wedding (by that I mean someone to do it). I'm concerned she's going to pick someone who's unavailable for a trial run. Definitely need to push for that.

I'm a little talented when it comes to make-up, so I'm definitely going to try a few looks on my own, and take my favourites to my make-up artist.

I love the idea of a dark glam for your winter wedding - I think it will look stunning with your dark hair!

I will be going for an enhanced soft glam with almost the exact colour palette in the picture you used - purples. I have reddish hair and green eyes so dark is not an option for me but I still want to look glamourous

OMG This is also true for me 😂 I have a small face and features so I can't wear a lot of makeup.

I will likely go somewhere in between soft and bold so that I feel good and my makeup shows up in pictures.

Probably going to go subtle with a hint of soft glam. If I wear too much makeup I look like a kid playing dress up lol.

I'm doing subtle since I rarely wear make-up.

I do actually like the look of the dark glam but I would never be able to pull it off!

I think they’re all beautiful! I would go for a makeup trial to be sure. Unless you’re doing your own then you can play around at home.

That is true! I definitely agree brides should stay true to themselves!
My fiance loves me from bare faced to totally glam, so I don't think he will mind either at, if anything he thinks to go more glam for the wedding. My everyday look ranges from nothing to full face. Haha.

I never wear any make-up on a day to day basis, so I'm certainly going to go for a more subtle look myself. As awesome as the glam looks, you still want to be recognizable. Your partner is marrying you after all, so I wouldn't stray too far from your everyday look Smiley smile

Uggghh, I got ONE LipSense at a wedding show... I hate it. It smells like chemical when I put it on, and if you have to re-apply a layer, it can get so messed up. I agree, if you don't apply it perfectly, it's awful.

I actually have most of the colours from the L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Liquid Lipstick line. I love them. They look a lot like the Kat Von D liquid lipstick (on the lips, not the packaging). And they are much more reasonably priced.

Yes for sure! Fortunately I have an olive skin tone that allows for darker colours. If I was having a summer wedding I think it would definitely be light and fresh!

I often play around with make-up, so it's not a big deal for me to have it for the wedding. Just as long as I don't end up like a raccoon clown!!! Haha.

Definitely soft! I want a fresh and natural look. I don't wear makeup much so I don't want to look different on my wedding day.

And no I do not think dark makeup is a mistake, but it definitely depends on season, theme etc... Like spring/summer I don't think the very dark would work as good and the dark or soft.. fall/winter the very dark would be perfect! But if you have darker colours then I think the very dark could work. Really just need to coordinate it with everything.

Awesome! I'm going to start shopping around for liquid lipsticks over the course of the year, so that I know I've found the perfect shade. I have a couple already, and they are the only thing I've worn that lasts through everything (even a double decker burger), and keeps its full colour.

I'm doing soft eyes and bold lips. Ive always been into dark lips. My wedding is beginning of fall so i really want to rock a dark lip. My colour scheme has burgundy so I'm going somewhere that colour for my lip.
