You’re wedding dreams as a child versus your actual wedding

Stephanie, on October 6, 2018 at 14:40 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 12

Who all thought of their wedding as they were growing up? Do you remember any of your plans from your childhood? Is there anything you are actually doing that you had dreamed about doing growing up?

As a teenager, I really liked the look of orange and blue together, and still do, so I used those as our wedding colours.

I had also dreamed of getting married in my childhood church, but that’s in another province than where I live now, so I wasn’t able to get married there, but loved our venue!

I'll be honest, I never really dreamed about the wedding details as a little girl or even as a teenager or young adult. Whenever I fantasised about my wedding it was always about the guy, the speeches and the general feelings/emotions.

Probably a big reason why even now as I am starting to plan an actual wedding I don't care about any of those details. That's one of the many reasons we are going with a cookie-cutter DW. Neither of us cares about the details enough to want to put the time and effort into thinking about them. We just want to gather our nearest and dearest and have a good time Smiley smile

I think I started thinking of my wedding once I met my FH. Thats when my Pinterest board started to get a lot bigger.

I basically wanted my wedding to look like the ones on TV. Big parties, big poofy dress, and very over the top.

That has completely changed now, we have a small wedding, no poofy dress, and very basic. Things really change when you look at how much a big wedding costs!

I would say I only started thinking about weddings in my early twenties. I remember wanting a very glam wedding, big ball gown, etc. My tastes today are completely different, we went with something more romantic bordering on the rustic side. However, I always wanted the ceremony and reception to happen in one place and that’s what we did in the end.

Oh I did! I did! haha, I've been thinking of my wedding since I was like 5 years old! I wanted a big wedding with a big ball gown and it was to be held in church and it would be sooooooo fancy with plated meals and a 7 tier cake! - ya... that's not happing... my wants are a bit different now.

Now there will be no church, and it will be mostly outdoors and not in a fancy hotel or anything. And as for a ball gown, although I haven't bought my dress yet, I don't think it will be a ball gown as that is too much like what I got for my High School graduation a few years ago.

The only thing that may still happen like how 5yr old me wanted, is a bouncy castle.

I don't recall thinking about my wedding before my late teens, early 20's. Now that our wedding planning is in full swing, I honestly don't remember what I thought my wedding-day would be like back then.

As a child I was going to be married like Cinderella... big dress, Prince Charming, horse drawn carriage and doves released at "I Do" .... Haha.

As a young adult, I went to school for event planning and took wedding planning... so it really opened my eyes to all of the possibilities and options out there... we ended up settling on a season, colour scheme, and style that I had never pictured before... but it's very "Us"...

No doves... no poofy dress... but I definitely got my Prince Charming! Smiley love

I never dreamt of my wedding growing up. In fact I only even got a vision for it like a week ago after 2 years of being engaged and planning. 😂

The only thing I've carried through was my love of sapphires on engagement rings! Which my FH nailed 100%!!! Tbh growing up I actually never thought I would ever get married... my now FH was my first serious boyfriend when I was 24 years old!

I had no dreams of marriage as a child and reluctantly looked at wedding magazines in my 20’s with my gf’s who were in serious relationships.

I don’t think I really started envisioning my wedding until my FH and I started our relationship.

I don't think as a child I ever really thought about my future wedding. As a teen me and my friends for fun would look at dresses online or if we went past a shop but that's about it. I used to always say (as a teen) that I didn't want a traditional wedding gown, that I wanted something short and different. So I guess that part of me never changed because I'll be wearing a tea length dress!

I never thought about my wedding until I started dating. When I did finally picture my wedding, I was always getting married outside, so that’s what I’m actually going to do ☺️

I definitely thought about my wedding since I was 5! I didn't have anything particular planned, but I knew I wanted to wear a dress with a train and I am!
