Will you save the top tier of your wedding cake?

Joey, on November 27, 2018 at 08:04 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 25

Do you plan to save and freeze the top tier of your wedding cake to eat on your first wedding anniversary, or will you be skipping this tradition?

We saved our top tier. Our baker gave us instructions on how to freeze it properly. Looking forward to eating it again, it was so good!

Thought it was a great sentiment at first, but decided not to go
this route. can’t imagine our cake would last a year and still taste ‘good ‘. We will just have our baker bake us something similar for our first year together !

We won't be doing this. I can't imagine cake freezes that well. I think my middle sister and her husband did this tradition, though.

If we choose to have a cake, we won't be saving it. I don't like the tradition of it.

Not doing this. We are only having a small cake. We both said for our one year that we would get the same cake as our wedding.

I think we will be doing this, we’re still undecided if we want cake or cupcakes. My FH is nagging me that we’ll die of food poisoning but I keep assuring him many other couples have done it 🙄

Yeah for sure! Essentially you get a box (I'm probably going to order one on Amazon), and it holds a wine bottle, and sometimes 2 wine glasses. You write each other love letters, and at the wedding ceremony you put in the wine glasses/wine/letters, and close it up. Then your officiant will say that on your one year wedding anniversary you will open it up, read each other's letters and drink the wine.

Some people say they open the wine/letters when you have your first fight... but I want to wait til the first anniversary.

It seems so weird to me to save a piece of cake for a whole year an then eat it.. haha! My mom is making our cake so maybe for our 1 year anniversary we could ask her to make it again

Can you tell me more about this wine box ceremony?

    That sounds amazing.

We're not even doing a cake. Various baking from all the grandmothers and aunts with little tags acknowledging who made it! (eg. Nanny's shortbread). Casual family styled luncheon wedding, so not much traditional stuff happening.

We did and it tasted as it was the day of the wedding. Make sure you wrap it tight and cream for that layer rather than fondant. It only takes a day to defrost for timing.

We’ll skip it since we can’t transport the layer in question safely from London to Thunder Bay. Also, I‘ll probably have eaten it by then lol

Not doing this. We are having a super small cake, we could save a piece of the cake if we wanted..but I've heard from people it doesn't taste very good a year later! And I just don't have the freezer space anyways.

Yeppers! It's really the only reason we're having a "cake"... it's 3 tiers, 4", 6", 8"... We were only going to have 2-tier (4"/6") but I realized how small that is, and I already think the 4" tier is big enough to save.. haha. Our 8" tier is fake, and we'll have a cake cutting ceremony with the 6" tier (immediate family will get some of it). Then we have mini cupcakes in 3 different flavours... one of which matches the cake.

We're doing a wine box ceremony as well, so we'll have love letters, some wine, and cake to celebrate our 1 year! Nom nom nom.

Nope - me and that leftover cake have a date once I’m released from the form fitting dress - FH has been warned 😄

Probably skip it - the only reason I want cake for my wedding is for the cake cutting ceremony so we will probably only have one tier which we will end up eating that night or the next morning.
