Will you change your name after you're married?

Joey, on September 2, 2017 at 10:05 Posted in Just married 0 23

Hi everyone, happy weekend!

What do you think about changing your name once you are married? Will you be changing it? Will your partner change theirs? Will you both change? Or will you both keep your own name?

This is such a tough question, my FH last name is such a tongue twister and its three words long. But what I might take his name for all of my legal documents but keep my original last name for work. My fiancé really wants me to take his name and its a great name, so we will see what happens in the next few months.

I'm changing my name. Mine is difficult to pronounce and spell (even though it's only 6 letters!). Fiance has a simple last name and I want a name that is easy to spell and pronounce!

I'm changing my last name too...I'm excited! It will definitely be a weird change, but I'm happy to do it, and I feel honoured to take his name.

I'm changing my name to his. I like the tradition of taking on your husband's last name, and he has also expressed that he really wants me to take his name so, it was a pretty simple decision. My co-workers call me by my last name only, so I will probably still go by that at work.

Changing it! I'm excited to do that. It's an honour, like some of the other ladies mentioned.

I wish I could change my last name but I live in Quebec and you have to legally keep your maiden name. I say it should be your choice whether or not to change your name!

I'll be hyphenating my last name with his. I have adult children with my last name and I want to keep that connection to them. Also, my degree and diplomas have my current last name printed on them so I'll just tack his name onto the end.

I have changed my last name to his. We both believe that it's the right thing to do. I told him that I like my new last name and it's an honor to be his wife.

In Quebec you cannot take your husbands last name so I will be keeping my last name.

I am changing my last name. My FH is the only male with his last name so it is a way to continue it on.

I'm not sure. My first name sounds kinda ridiculous with his. If anything I think I'll tack it on the end but I will for sure keep my maiden name for work.

I will be changing my last name. I don't particularly like my last name at the moment, it's too long. My FH's last name is short and sweet and I still get to keep my initials!

Changing my last name - to me it's meaningful and symbolic of our union and becoming a family. But I think to each her own! Whatever is right to you is right. Smiley smile

I will be hyphenating my name. I love my last name and as I am my father's only child I want to keep his last name and add my husbands name as well. It's going to be a little long but I don't care haha
