Where to get fabric for decorating arbor in Toronto?

Mira, on January 21, 2018 at 15:40 Posted in DIY 0 11
Hi there! I am looking to purchase chiffon fabric to decorate the arbor for our ceremony. The arbor is pictured below, but we are looking to maybe drape the fabric asymmetrically - kind of like wrapping it around the top. I was wondering:
1) where is the cheapest place to purchase this in a Toronto?
2) does anyone have any advice/experience with putting this up? Do you need to tack it/nail it in place?

My husband gets them at the hardware store, but I'm sure amazon has them. I've never got any from the Dollar store, but its worth a shot to see if they have them!

I got rolls and rolls of tulle off ebay for next to nothing, i want to drape it over an arbor or through the tree limbs to create a focal point of where we will be having the ceremony, plus i want to create dramatic flowy door decorations at the barn entrance. i purchased pretty much everything for my wedding off ebay and saved a ton.

also check out lens mills stores, not sure if you have one in toronto or not, but you can get reams of fabrics there for cheap, check out their discount bins.

kw wedding swap and sell on facebook is another great place to get used wedding decor

also - i contacted a restore store - every town has them, you can rent old doors from them to create a dramatic arbor, entrance, back drop etc. again...for next to nothing

Oh I never thought of zip ties! That’s a good idea - I suppose I’d get those from Amazon? Dollar store?

Thanks Stephanie - I’ll look into the FB buy and sell groups and see what I can find Smiley smile (if you know of any good ones - let me know!) I haven’t found anyone I can rent from that allows me to rent just the amount I’ll need for a reasonable price, but if you know of someone I’d be interested!

Zip ties, all the way. They'll hold anything and won't budge. Most are clear so you could probably arrange the fabric to sort of drape and cover them (or could cover with another fabric as a accent...or twine, depends on your aesthetic!)

You could check Leo's or King Textiles in TO. The sales at Fabricland are pretty impressive as well, you need to buy the $20 card to get big savings. My advice is to buy the fabric and do a trial run. Obviously measure your arbor and add extra length if you want that flowy look. It'll work best if it's one long piece of fabric.

It's great to want to support independent businesses, but honestly, chains are almost always cheaper. There are also Facebook wedding buy and sell groups.

You could also look into renting it. I'm sure wedding rental places would have some available.

I helped my friend with the lace on her podium in the reception hall. We used duct tape to help keep it attached, but with all the movement of people's papers, it did come loose by the end of the night. I think tacks would be better, and you can hide them at the back of the arbor so they are out of sight.

Thanks Jen! I was planning on checking out Fabricland, but had thought maybe people knew of a small independent fabric shop that was cheaper maybe Smiley smile I’m wondering if any brides have done this themselves and can offer any tips? I’ll be doing this myself on the day off - it seems like a quick job but I don’t want to underestimate it.

Check out any fabric land (if they have them out there). They usually have great prices. And I would like tack the fabric down to ensure it doesn't blow away.
