What was most important to you when choosing your photographer?

Joey, on April 3, 2018 at 08:05 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9

Choosing your photographer is an absolutely massive decision you have to make early in your planning process. Your wedding pictures will last a lifetime, and you'll be spending a lot of hours with your photographer on your wedding day, so you need to make sure you hire someone who you like, who you trust, and whose work you love.

So, how do you choose?! What was most important to you when you chose your photographer?

Creativity! I wanted some creative, artsy, detailed shots. Things like reflections or being in the background or pics through a hole in a fence etc. I also wanted 2 photographers who work well together and who we got along with. The couple we chose met my expectations!

A couple factors went into the thought process of choosing our photographer:

    1. Do we like their style?

    2. Are they within our budget?

    3. Are they available on our date?

    4. How do our personalities mesh?

We narrowed our choices down to three different photographers, all available on our date, all with somewhat similar styles and price points. It was the in person meetings with each that really made the decision for us, the team we chose made us feel like we were hanging out and having coffee with old friends, rather than meeting them for the first time to discuss a business transaction. They seemed genuinely excited to work with us (especially after we tossed out a couple ideas like taking the limo through the drive through for a pre-ceremony chicken nugget run lol), and in turn we are excited about working with them.

For us, it was our friends' experience with her. We loved her work, but wanted to get honest feedback and not just whatever the photographer chose to put on her website. Once we met, over skype call, we just knew we were making the right decision to go with her! We're both so excited to have her on our team!

This is a vendor that I'm reeeeally stuck on. I have found a few that take beautiful photos, not magazine amazing, but I would be happy with it. I am one of those brides that can't imagine dropping 4 months rent on one day of photos... I know people say "it's what you take away from the day", but I'm more of an experience/memory person. Also, everyone I know barely ever sits down and browses through their photos. But, each one of them picked one, or a few, of the best photos, and had them blown up and hung in their house, which is what I will want to do.

I want my photos to be under $2000, closer to $1500, and I have 3 potential photographers in that budget right now. Many of their reviews talk about how hard they work, and how personable they are. To me, that is equally important to the quality of their photos.

Our photographer is actually a teacher I had in high school. She was my favourite teacher too so I’m happy she is apart of our day. I love her work, I’ve been following her since I finished high school, she does a lot of grads and weddings of students so it’s really nice to see familiar faces in her work. Her bother is also a friend of my fiancé and he’s invited to our wedding. The joys of living in a smaller city! Haha I love it, it’s so nice knowing we’ll be more comfortable on our wedding day with someone we know.

This was the one vendor I went with my gut on. We booked the photographer my cousin used for her recent wedding. I loved her work and stalked her work on Instagram for 3 months before booking her lol.

The most important thing to us when choosing our photographer was how he made us feel, obviously after looking at his work. We wanted somebody who had a journalistic approach to photography and not the super posed type. We did a lot of research prior to booking to get feedback from past couples too and were so happy when we found ours. He's been amazing to work with and makes us feel so comfortable in front of the camera.

Well, first I had to like their photos. I went through a lot of websites that I didn’t really like before I found a few that I liked. The price had to be good too. There was one photographer I absolutely loved, but she was charging way too much. I really wanted the whole day covered, so I needed to find someone who had good quality photos and could shoot for the whole day at a reasonable price. In the end, one of my Facebook friends posted her wedding photos with a photographer who had a fantastic package and gorgeous shots!
