So I finally booked my Venue! It’s been stressing me out, I am someone that worries a lot so I wanted to make sure to have the venue secured asap. I booked my photographer first though, she’s a friend and a local photographer and I love supporting local young talent in the community. I own my own...

So I finally booked my Venue! It’s been stressing me out, I am someone that worries a lot so I wanted to make sure to have the venue secured asap. I booked my photographer first though, she’s a friend and a local photographer and I love supporting local young talent in the community. I own my own business too in the arts, so I know it can take patience working in a small town when you’re trying to grow your clientele so I thought of her right away! She’s awesome too ofcourse, and since we know each other it’ll be so much fun working with her on my wedding day and our engagement shoots!

I’m curious as to what I should be doing next, there’s all these great tools on wedding wire I know! However I really want to know what you all did first for your wedding planning, and what step are you working on now?

    I'm not sure yet! I think I'll end up putting together our table numbers, assembling our seating chart, putting together out wedding favours, and definitely a bunch of other things. Don't even get me started on our card box since that is probably giving me the most stress (I can't find one I love for under $200)!

    Any other vendors. Whichever vendor is most important to you. Most people who book caterer or Dj next.

    I think we did:

    1. Photographer

    2. Venue

    3. Caterer

    4. DJ

    5. Officiant

    6. Cake baker

    7. Florist

    8. Hair and Makeup

    We booked our things like:

    1. Venue (February 2018)

    2. Photographer (February 2018)

    3. Ceremony Site (February 2018)

    4. DJ (April 2018)

    5. Florists (August 2018)

    6. Hair and Makeup Artist (February 2019)

    I've been doing research for our other vendors the entire time and attempting to enjoy the process. Anddd I've been getting other things done like Save The Dates, my dress, my bridal shower invitations, wedding favours, etc.

    This is the order we did things in:

    1. Venue/Food/Hotel block - all the same place so less hassle!

    2. Hair - my good friend so the process wasn't as formal lol

    3. Photographer

    4. Officiant

    5. DJ/photobooth/uplighting

    6. Make Up Artist - I would've booked hair here too if I was going with a specialist/not my friend

    7. Flowers

    8. Cake

    We also have already got my dress/shoes, and everything for DIY centrepieces. We still need to but most of the smaller things, and order bridesmaids dresses/groomsmen suits, FH's suit, favours, and stationary (DIYing so no need to book).

    I’m starting to want a DJ too, I was originally thinking super simple and make an awesome Spotify playlist. But after picking this venue instead of the previous one in mind. I feel I should get a DJ or a small band. Much more costly than I had previously planned but this venue doesn’t have as good of a sounds system as the last one. Everything else about it is perfect.. But I keep hearing that a DJ or Band is a key piece to a good wedding.

    My photographer I hired has just brought on a videographer to her team so I’ll ask her for more info on that.

    We still don’t know what we wanna do for music so thats the next big decision I suppose!

    Okay, so I’m not too early then. My first dress shopping appointment is in a week!! EEK! I’m excited lol, but I was worried I was starting too early.

    The venue I picked is catering it, my mom and her really food friend are both officiants. So Decor is next!

    Congrats!!!! I know what you mean... I was so stressed out until we had the venue booked! Cause honestly every other vendor the first thing they always ask you is "Where's the wedding" so once you can answer that so much more is easier!

    Next I would suggest DJ, caterer, officiant, Hair & Make up, and any side entertainment (we got a photo booth) DJ the most important I think!

    Yay! So exciting! I booked my venue first since the location could influence which vendors I booked after. Then we booked our photographer (who I knew I wanted from the beginning), we're meeting with a DJ this week, and an officiant in April when he gets back from vacation. I'd also like to hammer out a videographer soon (once I convince my FH that it's worth it Smiley tongue ).

    That's amazing start! I know we did reception venue, ceremony venue, photography, hair stylist, makeup artist, dj, catering, and then searched for decor. I would see what its like to rent vs buy.

    So far we have - in this order:

    Venue
    Photographer
    Caterer
    Officiant

    So for our wedding, we have all vendors booked.

    Then it's just the invites, DIY decor, etc.. small things.

    Congratulations on your engagement and finding a wedding venue! I don’t remember the specific order (other than that we booked our venue first too), but we followed that with: florist, photographer, ceremony musician, DJ, decor.

    I booked our photographer first as well, then venues then caterer! You may want to next start looking at officiants, and maybe getting your decor organized! my next “big thing” will be going dress shopping in june, one year before the wedding!

    The order we booked was:

    - Venue (includes food and alcohol)

    - Photographer

    - Hair

    - Make up

    - Band

    - Officiant

    - Bridesmaid dresses

    - Flowers

    - My dress

    - Cupcakes

    - Invitations (I bought a template on Etsy and printed/cut them them myself)


    All of the big stuff is done, all that is left is the little things- I am making/repurposing a lot of the décor, I do need to buy a few pillar candles though (thinking Ikea, they are cheap but still last), we have to write our speech, pick allll of the songs (first dance, father/daughter, walking up the aisle, signing, and walking back down the aisle), seating chart

    6. Hair/makeup

    7. Limo

    8. Favours

    Of course I don't count it as booking but we already have my dress and his suit is ordered.

    Then we still have to book:

    8. Videographer

    9. Flowers

    10. Cake

    11. Decor

    I think that's it so far? Plus we need to have our wedding bands custom made too! (And dress and suit alterations.)
