Weekday Weddings

Sheilah, on May 27, 2018 at 10:31 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9
What does everyone think of weekday weddings? We are looking at August next year for our wedding. We have found a lot of our favourite vendors are already booked for the weekends that month! So because most of our guest list are teachers, kids and retired couples we are considering a weekday wedding instead of a weekend because it's summer break.

Has anyone held or been to a weekday wedding? Or have any things we may have missed to consider?

Thanks!

My fiancé and I are getting married on a Friday; the main reason we chose Friday is in the event that it rains the day of our wedding, it's more likely a room we're interested in within our venue will be available as back-up on that day (whereas Saturdays are almost always booked, and require a higher guest count to book a room).

My first wedding was on a Monday morning at 10:00am, followed by a brunch reception. It landed on a holiday so most people were off of work, so people not showing wasn't a major concern!

We managed a significant savings to have it on a weekday, as well as having a brunch reception (SO cheap!). So, I say go for it, own it, and love your weekday wedding! Smiley smile

You will be surprised on how much savings comes out from the weekend price.

Stick to the weekday since you have everything planned out.

I think it sounds like a great idea, and a bonus is your wedding is in the summer so a lot of your guest should be able to accommodate a weekday wedding.

That sounds like a good idea if your guest list will be able to attend! I think you’re really lucky in that you are able to have a weekday wedding! We wanted one, but it just wouldn’t have been doable. Plus, think of the money you’ll save!

You seem to have a unique situation with respect to your guests. Normally, weddings which are not held on a Saturday have a lower rate of attendance. Since most of your guests should be free on a summer weekday, you will not have to deal with that issue.

We aren't planning a dance, either. Doing a morning ceremony with a nice brunch reception. We aren't partiers lol.

I think if you give people enough notice, they will make the arrangements to be there. Some people won't like it, and it probably won't go super late, but I've been to many weddings where it doesn't go late even on a weekend and they are still a lot of fun. My friend is getting married on a Sunday so most of us attending have to work the next day. They aren't planning a dance so they don't anticipate it being a late night.

My brother is having a weekday wedding this August. He was super fixated on getting married 08-08-18 (we are Chinese and 8 is a lucky number) that he didn't care that it fell on a Wednesday. He is going to have a small ceremony on the Wednesday with very close friends and relatives and the older crowd, followed by a dinner. Then on the Saturday he is having his reception/big party with all of his friends and extended family on the Saturday at a restaurant instead of a more formal wedding venue. The bride will still wear her dress as will the bridesmaids and groom/groomsmen will wear their attire, it will just be a little more relaxed.

One thing my brother failed to consider was those that have to travel have to take a significant amount of time off of work to make it for a weekday wedding, but that doesn't look like it will be a problem for you!

Good thing about a weekday wedding is that there are often discounts!

Good luck in your planning! 😊
