Wedding Sunday of long weekends? Problem with stores closed?

We are planning to have our wedding the September long weekend 2021. Originally our plan was to have the wedding on the Saturday; however, then found out the Sunday is $1000 less to rent the venue...

My main concern with a wedding on a Sunday of the long weekend is that a lot of stores may be closed including hair salons, flower shops etc. Although it would be nice to save money, because of course weddings are expensive!

Has anyone experienced/heard of challenges with this when getting married on Sunday of long weekends? Or is usually not too big of an issue?

    My friend got married on a Sunday. Her salon was closed Sundays, so they charged us extra to come in (I think it was only $10 a person). Many other salons in our city were open but she wanted to stick with her stylist. Her flowers were only delivered during the week, so even a Saturday wedding she would've had to pick up early. Most rental places rent items for the weekend so that wasn't an issue for her.

    Our wedding is on a long weekend Sunday (October 11th, Thanksgiving Weekend) and we have had no issue with stores being closed. Mind you, in a centre like Calgary, rarely anything is ever closed. But anyway, no issues for us! Its great for the savings.

    Long weekend weddings may affect the choices of guests needing their hair done and going out getting things done due to closing early. You can confirm with your vendors and venue to have everything set up for hair/make up for guests at their salon or the venue depending on what they feel is best for them. The hairstylist/make up artist for the bride will have to be arranged in the room.

    The venue cost may vary based on popular days such as Saturdays being more expensive over Friday and Sunday. However, some venues do offer the same prices for Fridays and Saturdays. You are getting great savings and worthwhile to choose Sunday over the other weekend days.

    For a Sunday the only thing I can think of being a problem is the hours that places are open because of Sunday hours - but I can't see them being closed because of a long weekend. Like Hank said, the places would be closed on the actual Holiday Monday.

    If your wedding is on a holiday Monday, then it might be a concern but I wouldn't be on a Sunday.


    Majority of businesses in a major city like Vancouver will operate in some capacity for a Sunday, including hair and flowers. And most event vendors don't have set hours since they work for the event, which could be any day of the week. And if a potential vendor can't deliver when you specify Sunday, you can always find another vendor.

    You can have mobile hair and makeup that will come to you. and your flowers can be picked up the day before. if you want to do a sunday do it
