I think it's a nice way to thank your guests for coming. I think you can do it cheap. Something edible always goes over well. I am using my centrepieces as the favour. Each couple will get a potted plant. That way, I don't have tons of centrepieces left over, and it saves money since I can use it twice.

I think it’s a nice gesture for sure. We are doing the bottle opener keys for name tags at the table (we are doing assigned seating) they are not expensive and they are really cute. Then we are doing organic bars of soap. Possibly also little bags of candy with peoples name and table number when they first walk in.

I don't know if they're mandatory but they're definitely appreciated and a kind gesture for all of those who took the time to celebrate your special day.

We are doing little m&m to have on the table and then everyone will be getting peanut butter and jam. With a little note saying spread the love.

I don’t know the etiquette. I think it’s really nice to have them, and there are tons of ways to do it inexpensively. My FH and I decided to go to thrift stores and find some of our favourite books to recommend to our guests. So we’re doing a “Blind Date with a Book Table.” We were able to find books at very good prices (averaging around $1 per book). I think favours are a nice way to incorporate your personality into your wedding.

I didn't really want to do favours. I sort of looked at is as I'm hosting a party with great food (and SO much of it) and an open bar for my guests so that should be 'gift' enough. However, my mum pointed out guests usually buy clothes, sometimes book hotels/travel a distance and bring a gift for your wedding so a small thank you can go a long way.

We're doing bookmarks that have seeded paper on them that you can plant and get wild flowers. It's about $1.50 per person so wasn't too bad. I've heard of some people having a late night table of candy and putting out bags for guests to make their own candy bags as their favours. I've seen that done with popcorn as well.

That's an awesome idea!! I had a "friend" that was going to do my flowers for me but she has since stopped talking to me completely for no reason.

I have only a small select coming and I really wanted to do something nice to thank them, so a family friend agreed to do my favours for me as a gift. She’s a very talented potter! Sometimes keeping it in the family helps for deals.

I don't think they are necessary but they are a nice gesture. We did a DIY wedding favour of a spice mix in jars.

Definitely not a necessity. And also something that if you decided you wanted to add it later, there are inexpensive options that you can do, for about $1 per guest. (Tons of Pinterest ideas on that one).

Favours are extras. I've been to weddings that have them, and those that don't... I didn't miss them from the ones that opted to not have them.

They're not. It's a nice gesture, but not mandatory. We found another way to thank our guests without breaking the bank, by offering them 1 drink ticket. It worked out well, because our venue offers the option of a drink at $8/pp after the ceremony as an add-on, which we've decided to go with!
