Good Morning Everyone, I’m just wondering how far in advance everyone ordered their wedding dress? I really want to lose a bit of weight (I know that’s common) before I try anything on. Thank you!

Lol! I got a mermaid/trumpet style, my fiancé’s one wish was that he could still grab my booty in my dress 😂 I’m the same way I lose mine as well when I lose weight. Thankfully so far I haven’t but if I lose more then I can see that happening and yes the belly would be lovely! I would love a flat tummy I have a little bump I need to work on but I’m running out of time - luckily wedding dresses are mostly super flattering! Plus there’s always shapewear for back up

Getting married in August 2018. I have my dress custom made and ordered it at the end of March 2018. They said the pattern will be ready in June and the dress done in July!!! Smiley smile
Me too I hope to lose a little bit of weight. As it is customs made I will be able to get so slight alteration in July of needed.

I went 5 months before. Only reason was because there was a sale and in the winter less brides are shopping. So smaller crowd.

Ha! I have a big bum too. I know I’ll need to get mine altered just for that fact lol. I really like mermaid/trumpet style. So unless I go for princess or another style, it will likely get altered. My chest isn’t small, but I tend to loose them as I loose weight. Of course! It would be great to lose belly lol

I went 11 months in advance and my dress took about 7 months to come in. Plus I need alterations so it’s working out perfectly (my wedding is this August and I go for alterations beginning of June). I wanted to lose weight too but I just ordered my dress in my size and lost weight afterwards. I knew it was going to have to be taken in anyways though since my bum is big and my top isn’t. So I had to order bigger for my bum lol and if it has to be taken in a little then it won’t matter if you lose weight because it already had to be taken in the first place. Maybe unless you loose a ton of weight! I’ve only lost 10-15 pounds

Wow, you got your dress fast! I definitely agree with not ordering a size down. Just because then that can create a world of stress if someone is struggling to lose the weight. Great advice! Thank you!

For September 2019 I'd suggest going to look around September this year, give you time from now till then to lose the weight you want. Most dresses can take up to 8 months, most of the time around 6 months to come in after being ordered.

Usually, about 12 months before is common. I ordered mine in a shorter time frame because I only had a 9 months engagement (I got mine at 8 months).

If you are anxious, you could always go try on dresses to see what styles you like, that way you have a better idea of what to order when the time comes.

My wedding is in September, and I purchased my dress back in January. I received it in March. I was tempted to order a size down in anticipation of losing some weight. However, the consultant advised it is better, with the style of dress I got, to not order down, and instead alter down. I am glad I listened to her! So far, the dress is in the "perfect fit" category, and I have a few more months to drop a few more pounds and have it altered!

My wedding is in august. I orderes my dress in feb. The shop said that you could take in a dress up to three sizes without altering the look.

I’m glad you did it in 9 months. My family keeps saying we have to go now and I’m just not ready yet. Lol. I think closer to the one year mark I will be, I just don’t want to be “late” ordering one

We had a short engagement (9 months) so I pretty much went immediately due to time constraints. I think you can wait a little bit since you are still over a year out. I would say you should start looking about a year ahead or more if you still want time to reach your goals.

I got engaged and ordered my dress within a month. How much weight are you trying to lose? Id its not a huge number then start looking whenever.
