Wedding dress

Karen, on February 18, 2018 at 17:15 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 9
I've been losing weight and don't want to buy a dress yet. I'm planning to buy it in May or beginning of june. Will I be risking it? I plan to buy a dress that they have on hand. And my wedding is Sept so it'll give the seamstress 4 months to alter if it needs to be altred. Will my plan work??? Or that's too risky

Thank you, I'm almost at my weight goal but still gotta work a bit more. I went to look around this weekend and found the style I'm looking for. I also let them know I'm going to buy off rack dress in May so they booked me and noted that it'll be 4 months away and gave me there best employee to help me that day. So I'm pretty blessed that they are willing to help me.

Good luck on the weight loss. i hope you reach your goal. i would probably start maybe looking at dresses now. then when the time comes you may have a better idea of what you want.

Yeah, I would buy now. My seamstress told me that typically you're charged per alteration (ie if you're taking it in, it doesn't matter if you're taking in 1 inch or 3).
Also depending on your weight loss method, chances are that between now and September you won't lose a HUGE amount of inches (I don't intend that to sound mean --- I have the same timeline, and I'll be LUCKY if I lose another 10-15lbs) so you'll probably not have to do a complete overhaul on the dress or anything.

If you are buying off the rack you have a little more time but the longer you wait the more stress there is. I wouldn't wait until June to start looking for your dress. There is so much other wedding stress and details to worry about in the last few months you don't want to add dress stress as well.

Yea it'll be a little bit of a pressure for sure. But there's gotta be that 1dress. I'll just keep that positive thought in mind. Smiley smile

Since it's off the rack, you do have a bit more time to shop. My friend bought her dress three months before her wedding off the rack and there was still time for the alterations. The problem with waiting though is the pressure to find a dress increases the longer you wait.

I went today and did find not 1 but 5 dresses that i love. I'm not picky with the dress. I'm just worried that I'm buying too early (but they said I should buy now) which I was shocked. I am also losing more weight and they said the more alteration is made the more expensive it'll get. So I'm torn. But at the same time I'll keep positive thought that I will find the 1 in time when I'm ready. May and june should be a good date so theres time for alteration if needed.

As long as you are positive that you can find an off the rack dress you'd be fine. Alterations typically start about 6- 8 weeks in advance of the wedding.

If you're not SURE you can find a dress off the rack, you need to get looking right away. I think it's also important to note that most dresses can be altered up to two sizes down and still maintain their look.

Unless you're buying it off the rack dresses can take the store up to 8 months to order and get it in. Then however many alterations you'll need and the amount of time for them. I'm going through weightloss too, however my wedding is in over a year but I'm going next week for my dress to be on the safe side. It's easier to make a dress smaller than it is bigger, so go as soon as you can and if you have to take fabric away then that's fine.
