Just wondering how everyone picked thier wedding day? I have no idea what day to pick. I keep bouncing around. Driving everyone crazy. Right now I'm thinking about a Christmas wedding.

We knew we wanted a spring wedding but we didn't want it on a long weekend so we ended up picking May. After the holiday weekends were eliminated we only had the first weekend or the last weekend left and we decided that if we had it the last weekend we would be more likely to have a nice spring feel and look to the wedding so we went with May 25 Smiley smile

We picked October since it is our month, we started dating October 13 and got engaged October 26 so we picked the weekend in between those two!

My FH and I always knew that if we were getting married it would be on our 10 year anniversary which was also a Saturday. We never had trouble picking a date as we were both agreed on November 9th 2019. Because its also an "off season" wedding we had no trouble booking the venue we wanted or booking caterer ect.

P.S I personally love the idea of a Christmas wedding!! That was my dream wedding as a little girl.

You’re so smart to check when Flo would be around! I didn’t even think about this, and thankfully I avoid it, but only by a few days! Close call!

    Like some others have said:

    1. pick a season that you like (late fall- early spring tend to have discounts)

    - me and my FH chose Fall for not only the discount but he veto'd winter due to weather in Winterpeg, I veto'd summer because my family has lots of farmers that wouldn't be able to make it. Then it was spring or fall and spring in Winnipeg doesn't really exist... one day it is -10 and the next it is above 20!

    2. I checked when Aunt Flo would be visiting me (I'm on the pill so I was able to look over a year and a half in advance and know)

    3. My BM's brother was also getting married in Fall 2019 so we made sure to avoid that weekend!

    4. We wanted to avoid long weekends as we didn't want to be taking that away from our families who all love to camp on labour day weekend and didn't want to feel inclined to have thanksgiving food at our wedding.

    5. With the 3/4 weekends left we went and found our venue and when it came down to the options available we went with October 5th as we started dating on the 5th of March, announced we were engaged on the 5th of January, and to be fair I started working at my job on November 5th - which is related to how I met him (I met him at a coworkers game night, her husband was the only dude there so he called in his buddy Kael to go out with him for drinks but because he was doing a sober month they stayed with us and played games which led to him taking me home - but not before stopping at McDonald's for what was our first unofficial date).

We picked September because we didn't want a hot month- the tie was between June and September the venue we wanted was booked in June so we chose September. The actual day we chose because it was few weeks after school began, and not to close to end of the month where it really cools off.

We started with July because we knew that’s when we wanted to get married (majority of my guest list are teachers so it works out that way as well with the summer off).

I wanted a date away from the long weekend and the end of the month.

so we picked the Saturday in mid July!

We started with the season we liked. FH is not a fan of suits, and being sweaty in a suit is not a good time for him lol, plus we still wanted to have nice pictures outside. We decided on fall because my allergies are super bad in the spring no matter what I do. Then from there we went through every weekend from the beginning of September to the end of October to see what our venue had available.

We had limited options my husband was deployed for 6 months before the wedding so it was either plan a wedding in 5 months or have to wait over a year and not be able to confirm a date. We ended up choosing March so we knew for sure he would be home, it was perfect as I also envisioned snow on my wedding. It was not actively snowing but there was still some left

We knew we wanted a summer wedding and I'm sort of a student (currently in between things), so we went with a wedding date that still gave us the room for a long honeymoon. We started narrowing down dates (we wanted a long weekend, but not a big one), so we ended up on the August long weekend!

Im a student, so we knew we couldn’t get married between January and April, and September and December. That left us with May, June, July, and August. My FH is an accountant, so May would be too tight after tax season, and we knew we didn’t want July or August because it’s too busy and too hot. That left us with June! we picked June 6 because 06/06/2020 had a nice ring to it

We picked September because we wanted nice weather, but not blazing hot, and April/May would have been a bit tight time-wise. The first weekend of September was a long weekend and we didn't want that. My husband's parents were going on vacation towards the end of the month, so we decided we wanted either the 2nd or 3rd Sunday. The venue we chose had a huge golf tournament the 2nd weekend of September, so we went for the 3rd (September 16th).

We picked a date based on our families. We started with his parents- they will be travelling from Peru and aren't used to Canadian weather, so we picked spring/ early summer. Then, we decided based on our schedules- I'm going to start my PhD, which will keep me busy until April. Then we narrowed it based on our venue- I'm using my boss's office building and he usually has parties in June, so if we pick the same weekend, then the office will already be set up for a party and we won't be bothering them too much. Bam, June 20, 2020.

I knew I wanted a summer wedding because I had lots of out of town guests. The venue we fell in love with had one Saturday left in the summer, so we booked it!
I agree with Daniela. Start with a season and see what your venue has available

I would start by season! Do you want winter/fall/spring/summer wedding. Then within that season you can pick a month maybe that’s special to you, and a day or if you are on a tight budget you can consider october-april, if you have a lot of family out of town that might help you pick a holiday weekend so it’s easier for people to travel. Ultimately whatever makes you happy! For us winter and summer were out of the question which left us with spring and fall, and since I am just finishing school spring just worked better ! Hope this helps.
