So my fiancé and I finally settled on a date that worked with our venue and we couldn’t be more excited. Wednesday August 7, 2019! We live in China but are having our wedding in Ontario, and since most of our guests are coming from well out of town or are family that are teachers with summers off, we had no problems booking a weekday wedding. We got engaged a few months ago and didn’t want to have to wait two years to have the wedding as most of the Saturday dates for 2019 were already taken at places we wanted, so a weekday wedding it is!
But we chose this day in particular because it’s even more special now as next year on this date it will be Qixi! (AKA China’s Valentines Day). I thought I’d share the story. It’s a story that dates back about 2600 years found in Chinese poetry and takes place among the stars ...

The tale is a love story between Zhinü (the weaver girl, symbolizing Vega) and Niulang (the cowherd, symbolizing Altair).[3] Their love was not allowed, thus they were banished to opposite sides of the Silver River (symbolizing the Milky Way).[3][10] Once a year, on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month, a flock of magpies would form a bridge to reunite the lovers for one day.[3]
Hopefully we’ll be able to spot Vega and Altair in the night sky on our wedding night. Supposedly the star between them is the bridge of magpies. It’s a festival newlyweds celebrate to bring prosperity and happiness to their marriage so we’re really excited to have this element as a part of our wedding as we’ve lived in China for nine years and it’s basically our home now.
Anyway, I’m so happy we’ve got our date! Just wanted to share!!! This year, Qixi falls on today, August 17. So I’m wishing you all a very happy Qixi festival! 七夕节快乐!
To my Niulang;
Tim你是我的爱人❤️❤️
