Venue an hour from city....big deal for guests?

Sarah, on August 27, 2017 at 09:37 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 6

We are struggling to find a venue! We both love barn and rustic weddings but we can't find anything to fit our approximately 200 guests. We are considering a tent wedding on my Dads farm; but it is an hour outside of town. We have a lot of out of town guests flying in. Is it rude to ask them to drive an hour to and from the reception site? We would provide buses to take them to and from and reception site back to the hotel.

Thanks!

If you're providing transportation to/from the wedding, then I don't see an issue. Just make sure to make it very clear to everyone that they have to be at a specific pick-up location at a certain time so that they can plan accordingly.

That is a actually what happened with my cousin at her barn wedding. She had a big bus that brought the guest to the ceremony and reception site, then back at the end of the night. It was actually a bit funny because the bus got lost, and the wedding had to wait for the guests and not the bride lol

Our venue is 30 minutes from town and 12 minutes from the ferry for the mainland guests. We decided to rent a shuttle to take guests to a hotel in town, and we'd be taken off to a different hotel closer to the venue. Honestly, I don't see a problem so long as you're providing the transportation.

I think if you have buses transporting people, they would be busy chatting during the hour long drive and that would pass the time pretty quickly. That way you're not inconveniencing them in the least.

I think if you're offering transportation to the hotels and such then I see no problem with that! My friend recently got married on her grandparents farm and it's alsonover an hour out of town and she still had great success with having guests show up. No one complained and they had a good time. It's your big day! People will want to come out regardless of where it is I would think Smiley smile
