Traditional or Twist: Wedding Vows?

Lynnie, on February 17, 2020 at 09:05 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 29

What are your plans for the wedding vows? Are you sticking with the traditional promises of "in sickness and in health"? Or are you embracing more modern trends when it comes to your vows?

Will you say the traditional wedding vows? Or are you adding your own twist? Smiley ring

We were debating writing our own vows, but my FH is pretty shy and doesn't like the "pressure" of finding the perfect words, so we've found some Celtic vows (because I'm Irish) that are absolutely beautiful and really do fit how we view marriage. So the vows fit my heritage which gives them a personal touch, and they also fit our relationship well. I think so long as you feel a connection to the words then you can choose either option. I just definitely think it's worth looking at more than the stereotypical script out there

My Fiancé and I are doing a first look ans reading letters we write for each other because neither one of us liked the idea of saying personal vows in front of like 50 people. So our wedding vows will be whatever our officiant decides on!

I really like the idea of doing private personal wedding vows. That way it is super intimate and romantic and you don't need to worry about stage fright/public speaking.

My husband and I wrote our own vows. We’ve been together for 10 years and it was really special to add personal touches during our unity

There were pre-written vows in "A Practical Wedding" Book I had picked up (love that blog!) and we are going to tweak one of the non-religious ones in there we both liked.

Our personalities are such that it wouldn't be worth the stress of writing personalized vows. We're both very detail oriented (sometimes TOO much) and I'm a perfectionist/very anxious about it being perfect when it comes to writing. He's cool with it to save my sanity. True Love...LOL Smiley heart

We’re staying more traditional with our vows, but we will be writing personal vows that we will be exchanging privately

We are sticking to the traditional ones, both FH and I really like them and neither of us like being put on the spot in front of people

We aren't able to write our own vows as it is a Catholic ceremony, however, the father that is marrying us said that we can send what we would have wanted in our own vows and he can incorporate it into the traditional ones.

We didn’t write our own but we didn’t use the “for richer for poorer” version either. We chose some that were meaningful for us

Traditional vows. The Catholic Church unfortunately doesn’t let brides and grooms write their own vows.

My officiant has a nice selection for us to pick from and we saw one that fits us. We just want something quick and simple.

We're writing our own vows. I've always wanted to write my own since not every relationship is the same, so I think vows should reflect that and what's specifically important to you and your spouse-to-be

We're putting our own twist on our vows and writing our own. The classics don't feel very personal to me.
