Too far for guests?

Kat, on February 3, 2017 at 11:11 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9

Hello!

My fiance and I have found a venue that fits all of our criteria. It is within our budget, theme, and is available on our preferred date. We love it! However, it is 1.5 hours away from our hometown and almost all of our guests. We are just wondering if this is too far to ask our guests to drive?

The ceremony and reception would be held at the same venue. We are having a smaller wedding of 60 close family and friends only. And our preferred date is on a Friday - which could make the drive more inconvenient for guests. There are hotels within 5 to 10 min from the venue that we could block rooms and look into shuttle services.

Thoughts?

Hi Kat! Welcome to the community! I'm so happy you found that perfect venue! Congrats! Smiley heart I'm happy to see that the ladies in here gave you such great advice. Smiley smile You can also take a look at these discussions to see more ideas: How far is too far for guests to travel for a wedding ceremony/reception?

How far away from home is your venue?

What type of venue is it? What theme did you choose? I can't wait to hear all about it! Smiley catface

I don't think that's very far at all! People can either make a mini getaway of it or can easily return home. We are getting married 3 hours from where we live and people haven't made a fuss so you should be fine. If people want to be a part of your day the travel time won't matter to them.

Not to far to travel. It's your day and if they really love you and want to be there for you they will come. I was just told this from my future sister in-law.

I don't think it's too far! I live in LA so an hour is pretty standard to get places. (Though it might be a challenge with Friday traffic.) Like the other brides said, if they really want to be there, they will! If one of my good friends was getting married on a Friday evening, I would take a half day off work and then getting a hotel room for the night. I would suggest waiting about 10 minutes after your ceremony time to start though in case some people are stuck in traffic. Just don't tell them that so that they come early! (My aunt rolled in 15 minutes late to my ceremony and if we hadn't been running behind anyways, she would have walked in and disrupted everything!)

I completely agree with Melissa! As long as your guests have notice, they'll have plenty of time to decide what they'd like to do. I also think providing a shuttle would be a really nice touch!

I would happily travel 1.5 hrs for a wedding! The Friday wedding date might make it a little tricky, but I see your wedding is listed as October, so you could send Save the Dates, and give your VIPs notice ahead of time Smiley smile

I agree, I don't think that's too far for people to travel. Easily done the day of the wedding and then they would just have to get a hotel for one night.

I don't think that is too far of a drive. I have family who have to drive 5 hours to get here, I have a cousin and a friend coming from Alberta! If someone really wants to share your special day with you, they will make an effort to be there and the distance shouldn't matter to them!
