To serve or not to serve? (cake)

Angie, on May 9, 2018 at 15:48 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 16
Hi everyone so we already book a venue. If we are doing buffet or plated it already come with dessert. Im just wondering , should we get a cake that serve all our guest or is it tacky if we will only get a sinle layer cake just for the cake cutting? Thanks

Cake ia your choice, stick with it. Cut 25% off when ordering considering not everyone will be eating it.

As far as serving for sit down, portion size can be served with choice of dessert chosen or alone. If its sweet table, go one 2 tiers since the second tier won't get be taken as much.

I’ve been told that most guests don’t eat very much dessert and I myself am not a huge fan of wedding cake.. regardless my fh and I decided to get a 10” cake for cutting, cupcakes, and keep the cheesecake squares that come with catering.. I love cheesecake so I’d be more than happy to take those leftovers home 😍 my point being that cupcakes are always an option but you’ll most likely have so much leftover for sweets regardless Smiley smile

I find the cake rarely gets eaten if there is a dessert. Just get a cake for the cutting (or skip it entirely!) and you’ll be good to go!

I wouldn't spend the extra money and get a big cake. because even if you serve the cake as a late night snack your venue will probably charge you a cutting per person fee (around here thats an extra $1.50-3 a person). our meal comes with dessert. we are getting a small cake (like a 6 in round) to cut and do photos.

We got a cake that we will be serving later on in the night, even though we already have dessert served with dinner.

I find not everyone likes cake? Or the same type of cake which makes it hard to do. We are doing a 2-tier. One to cut, one to keep, and then we will have a sweet table around it for guests to enjoy different items!

Our buffet also includes dessert. We are getting a single tiered cake to cut and cupcakes to serve to guests. It was just an extra little snack as I know ppl love food including myself haha

If it's just a tiny cake to cut (and not serve), then sure - go for it!

I've also seen friends do the "cake cutting" with a cupcake, pie, or really any dessert option!

If dessert is available for the guests already I would just get a small 1 tier cake for your cake cutting (for photo and tradition purposes) and a simple sheet cake (enough for maybe only 1/3-1/2 of the people there).

I've heard that as per etiquette, if you have a cake cutting, you should have enough cake to serve everyone. On the other hand, who cares? I personally don't remember the cake from any of the weddings I've attended and wouldn't care if there was a cake cutting and I didn't get any.

We're doing like Jackie with the cupcakes and small cake on top. We'll cut the cake and serve the cupcakes. We'll take the cake home and send the leftover cupcakes home with mom as she'll be entertaining family members from out of town.

We are having a brunch so I was wondering the same. As it’s kind of early in the day for cake. But I think we have decided to go with cupcakes for guests and a small wedding cake for us.

We just did a small cake to cut ourselves and saved the rest for our anniversary.

Totally your decision, but either works.

Our meal comes with three chosen deserts (served like hors d'oeuvres) so we are just getting a small cake to cut for traditions sake. If some guests want to eat the cake that's fine but there will not be enough for everyone - since we are providing so much desert I doubt many people will want cake though.

I think you should have a wedding cake the style you want whether it’s single or multi layer. If your having deserts I don’t think it should be a problem, but there might be a chance that all your guest want to try a piece of your wedding cake.
