To do wedding favors? Or to not do wedding favors is the question...?

Ashley, on March 3, 2018 at 17:09 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 37

Hello Everyone!

Still trying to decide if we want to do them or not. Also struggling to find something to use that isn't going to be wasteful if not everyone takes them and cost a fortune. I have looked into vials of steeped tea which came to $315 for 110 favors not including taxes and shipping. Thought of popcorn, sugar cookies, mints, bottle openers but nothing really fits us. ANY advise is greatly appreciated!

We have decided to do little organza bags filled with mints and a homemade tag. Thank everyone for your input!

We are doing little candles with personalized tins, 120 will cost us $188 after shopping and handling and the customization. They are vanilla scented so if people don't take them home we will just have extra candles to burn during baths or such. I recommend checking out:

Our candy bar will double as the wedding favour. I bought organza bags with personalized acrylic tags so guests can fill the bags with candy on their way out.

Elizabeth , is it too much if I ask for more info? I am really interested in what you’re doing, however I have never tried to make a soap and I am afraid something will explode at the end! Thanks in advance Smiley smile

Have you heard of https://www.weddingstar.ca/? They offer nice wedding favors for cheap. I also didn't want to get something that was a waste of money. This website gave me the idea of doing wine glasses for favors as they are really cheap and nice!

We got small bottles at the dollar store and filled it with a homemade spice rub for everyone. Not super expensive and most people really liked it.

I am torn weather to have favours or not. I didn’t want to get something that wouldn’t be used. We have been thinking about making wood coasters from a tree and using a wood burning tool to put everyone name on and then the wedding. I have thought of making 2 per person so that if you go home you have a set. I’m not too sure yet tho.

We are also foregoing wedding favors. In the last 5 weddings I've been to, most people forgot their wedding favors at the end of the night. My fiance and I decided we would just put it towards food where the guests could really appreciate it.

We’re doing personalized beer koozies that I found on Etsy works out to only be $1.20 per person. We’re having a big farm wedding and beer koozies fit our personalities- I know it’s hard to find something that goes with your wedding style and personalities that are also inexpensive! We’re also doing cupcakes with to go boxes but those weren’t meant to be a favour just an extra snack/dessert but now that I think of it they are kind of a favour as well. Smiley smile

We purchased small little see through baggies and are going to make a s'mores mix with mini marshmallows, cereal, chocolate chips, etc. and have little tags for the baggies that say "there's always room for s'more love". We wanted something for them to eat instead of a little trinket because I find that they get left behind. Something edible is always the way to go. To do all of this, we are spending well under $100.

My fiancé and I are also on the fence about wedding favours. I like Lucy’s idea about the photo booth but unfortunately that is not within budget.

I ’m a sweets person and I saw this one candy company that makes custom candy with the couples initials in them, I think if budget allows we will most likely go with that option.

Over all it would be a nice gesture to give your guests something small whether that something is memorable like a photo booth or something edible. I noticed that often, small trinkets like picture frames or vases, goldfish, etc. get left behind.

One time I went to a wedding and the bride and groom decided to put a beta fish in the centre peice and the winner of the centre peice game got to take the vase with the beta fish home. I felt so bad for the little guy, as they had the “bright” idea to put a lit floating candle in the vase, luckily there was some florals as well in the vase for the beta fish to hide in.

I think you should absolutely do favors! It's such a nice way to thank your guests for attending your big day and for gifts. You don't have to break the bank to do wedding favors either, they don't need to be anything extravagant. We are making homemade soap as our wedding favor that's done in heart shaped molds. We are having a wedding of 120 people and it'll only cost $30-40 to make them. There are a ton of other DIY favors that you can make that won't break the bank, if you want some more ideas just give me a shout! Smiley heart

The key to cheap favors though is to spend a day making them, whether it be soap, a handmade sweet, or a jar of jam.

Currently we've decided against favours. As much as we appreciate and care about our guests I don't think it is necessary to give them a favour. We are paying for their whole night, food, drinks and entertainment. That's good enough if you ask me. For me I think it's just an unnecessary cost so we decided against. I think your idea is super cute though, I just couldn't spend $300 on something that most likely will go unused. Not saying that your specific favour will go unused I've just noticed people often leave their favour behind or just never end up using it.

Honestly, I think favours are a way of thanking your guests for choosing to spend their time celebrating your wedding. I think something is better than nothing.

Hey Ashley! I think you're on the right track with food. But I would try more non-parishables, because then if your guests doesn't eat it the week after your wedding, the can still enjoy it later. My sister in law had little jars of local honey and I think it only cost her $2-3 per jar. I'm doing maple syrup from my venue (it's a conservation area with a sugar bush), but honestly it's very cultural. I'm only doing favours because my fiance is Italian and the favour is very important to them. Do what feels right for you two, and obviously whats right for your budget. If you don't do favours on the wedding day, maybe send a nice photo from your day with the thank you cards Smiley smile

Thanks Jessica. I really like them. The heart charm is also compatible with Pandora sized charm bracelets and actually look kind of nice on (for the price).

We gave a crystal motive candle holder per household being under $5. Worked out for us as a guest favour. Bargain on pricing for larger quantity.

My fiancé and I decided against them for the same reason. They’re expensive and unless they’re food they often get left behind or sit and gather dust. If you find something good that works for you then it’s worth it but if not, best just leave it.

Anything DIY will be much cheaper than purchasing already made. Consider buying food from Bulk Barn which you can then put into a jar/box/bag with a little tag on it. You can buy loose leaf tea from them too. I've been to some weddings where they gave a favour out per couple (like a plant) so it saves you some money and less waste if they don't take them.

Generally it won't go to waste, as people will eat it up right away. You can also consider getting something that doubles as your centrepieces and give them away in the evening to take home (such as a plant), saving you some money.

Anything that won't collect dust will be a good option, so plants, or foods. Jams and jellies tend to be a hit as well, and you can DIY that.
