Timeline

Kirsten, on March 23, 2019 at 19:16 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9

Any tips on how to make the wedding day timeline? I have been looking online and most of what I have seen is incorporating the first look (which we are not doing) so I'm struggling to make one up that incorporates the photos after the ceremony.

I just used an Excel sheet. I started with the obvious non negotiables, and from there have added/removed lines, inserted comments, etc. Smiley smile

Our vendors were reslly helpful as they have done this many times! We also used our own experiences from going to/being in other weddings. I have been in some where getting ready was tight, another where we had too much getting ready time and not enough picture time.
    This was our timeline:
    9:00 hair appointment
    10:00 makeup appointment
    11:00 photographer arrives
    12:00 quick lunch
1:00 pictures of bridesmaids and bride/groomsmen and groom
    1:45 first touch
    2:00 ceremony
2:30 photos begin (we did group shots with all our guests, then family photos, photos with wedding party, then just us)
    5:00 reception starts/we enter
    5:15 supper served
    6:00 speeches
    6:30 first dances
    10:00 late night snack served
I'm pretty sure our reception timeline was off though. We did everything earlier than expected. We waited until dessert to do speeches. And they did not take half an hour so the dance was right after them.

We started drafting our timeline by asking all the vendors when they would be arriving and when they will be leaving so we know how much time we have for everything. Our officiant was great with giving us a timeline of the ceremony, our venue gave us a great idea as to when to have the late night snacks come out and when to do the cake cutting, etc. The vendors typically know exactly how much time they need so be sure to talk to them and factor all that into your rough draft timeline!

A practical wedding has helped me work out a rough timeline. The one closest to mine is the 4pm start, my wedding starts at 3 so I adjust as needed. So I'd look at the timeline closest to your ceremony time and go from there.

Start with your ceremony time and work backwards. I worked with both my photographer and my hair/ makeup artist to come up with my timeline.
Factor in time for each person in the wedding party to get hair and makeup done. If you are travelling to a salon factor in that time.
If you are taking pictures at a different location after the ceremony, figure out how long pictures are going to take, travel time to reception with enough of a buffer for you to relax before making grand entrances

Here's mine, which is still a work in progress haha.

The highlighted portions are from my photographer, I sorta built around what she gave me during out first meeting.
