Thanksgiving Wedding

Ling, on May 13, 2018 at 16:42 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9
Hi guys,

We're considering having our wedding on Sunday October 13th 2019 (the day before Thanksgiving). Do you think alot of people wouldn't attend due to it being a holiday weekend?

Thanks

Pick a date that works for you guys and go from there. People will always have opinions about the date chosen and if you are important to them they will show up barring any major life problems.

So we ended up picking Thanksgiving weekend (October 6, 2018) because it was one of the few weekends that worked for us (finance does shift work). We asked both our mom's their thoughts and they didn't see a problem with it plus it gives people an extra day if they have to travel from out of town without having to take extra time off. In fact many friends and family liked that they won't feel so rushed for traveling. Just be sure to give people lots of advance notice if they will need to fly in as flights always get more expensive for holiday weekends if you book too close to the day.

Although Thanksgiving is a family holiday it isnt like your asking people to give up their Christmas.

Some guests might appreciate that it is already a holiday, while others who have set plans and traditions may find it challenging. I'd check with your VIPs and see what they think, and base the decision off of them.

100% agree with Stephanie that you just need to give people enough notice.

I went to a wedding thanksgiving weekend and most of the people they invited went. I think if you give enough notice people will be willing to change their schedule for your wedding.

My wedding is the week after thanksgiving, October 19, 2019. We picked that date for a few different reasons, but we did think about having it on the thanksgiving weekend. Since you are having it the day before, it would probably be ok (and cheaper for you guys on the Sunday) but keep in mind that out of town travel will probably be more expensive. We have a lot of out of towners and we wanted to help keep costs down for them.

I wanted mine on the long weekend in September 2019, but it was already booked. IMO long weekends are great for weddings, especially when you have out of town guests. Thanksgiving weekend is a great one.

I honestly don’t see it being a big deal at all... everyone who you want to be there will be there for you guys. A girlfriend of mine had it on thanksgiving weekend also and it was no problem. The good thing is that people can move around their dinner and if not I’m sure their family will understand why they can’t make it for that thanksgiving.

That's the main reason me and my fiance decided on October 5th 2019. Even though my family doesn't really get together for Thanksgiving we didn't want to be "that couple" that has their wedding on a holiday or long weekend.
