Rsvps!

Holly, on February 24, 2019 at 00:12 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 13
Hello everyone! Since my invitations had been delivered this week and the wait for RSVPs has begun I thought I'd ask everyone about their RSVPs!

When did you or do you plan to send your invitations? Do you have a deadline date in mind? Did you do the traditional mail RSVPs? Or did you do something more modern like through a website or email.

For me, we sent ours last week and have a deadline of end of April, so our guests have LOTS of time to RSVP so I don't expect to receive any for a few weeks at least. We sent our invitations through mail but the RSVP is over e-mail.

For those that have already sent them. Have you received any RSVPs yet? When did the first one come, I'm sure you were super excited! I know I will be when we get our first one as long as it's a yes we'll attend!

If you have received all yours or have already gotten married, did you have to chase anyone down for an answer? Or have any guests as for a plus one I'd they didn't originally get one? Anyone RSVP no but show anyway or the opposite, say yes and now show? I'm really hoping we don't have to make any calls to get an answer and since we decided only those in serious relationships get a plus one I really hope that no one asks for one. We're having a small(ish) wedding and don't want anyone extra added to the guest list. And of someone shows after saying no I don't even know what I'd do! And I would be very upset if someone said yes and didn't show, unless they gave me a heads up beforehand.

Does anyone have any good or bad RSVP stories?
I thought it would be fun to hear everyone's thoughts and plans on RSVPs! Let's hear it!

We sent out our RSVPs just after Christmas with a reply by April 1st date...we wanted to give people MORE then enough time to respond. We have about 1/3 back so far....and only 2 no's out of that. Both were kind of expected as one couple lives in Ireland and the other in Nova Scotia but it was still a little sad.

We seem to get a few back each week...I always get so excited when they come haha my FH lets me open them, then I go straight to our spreadsheet and input the information. Never before would I have thought I would be excited about spreadsheets haha

We still have just over a month to go before our deadline, but I still think we are going to have to chase a few people down for their replies...not looking forward to that! We will have about 2 weeks to do that, and the seating chart.

We sent ours out four months in advance and asked they rsvp within two months so we had two months to work out the seating chart. I probably had to chase down 50% of people!
We did online invitations and an rsvp through our website. I would get an email with each response so it was exciting to hear the notification on my phone!
We had 14 people rsvp yes and not come. 7 of those had let us know beforehand something had come up. I appreciate that they let me know because emergencies do happen. Two guests who didn’t know anyone else were able to bring a friend and my sister-in-law invited her two sisters last minute.
We had one person rsvp for “maybe two” when it was just him. I honestly wouldn’t have minded if he brought someone just based on the amount of no’s we had received but I couldn’t deal with a maybe! It was my husbands friend so I told my husband to tell him we needed to know for sure otherwise he would have to pay for the second seat himself! He ended up not bringing anyone!

I have an rsvp story that was funny to us! We did online rsvps and the way ours worked was you just type in your name, email, and number coming or not attending. (There was no password or list of invitees for ours, as some have). I received an email that “Sidney McDavid” was coming and was bringing 117.3 guests! Now, the thing to know is that my favourite NHL team is Pittsburgh penguins, captained by Sidney Crosby and my husbands is the Edmonton Oilers, captained by Connor McDavid. So, I knew it was someone who knew us and knew it was a joke! The number of attendees was an odd number (I expected it to be these players numbers). We didn’t do a lot of investigating but I wrote about it on my wedding blog. My brother confessed that it was him! He was on our shortlist of who did it, but we hadn’t asked him!

I sent ours out mid-January, with a deadline of March 23. (so 5 weeks before our wedding). We have had about 30% of our RSVP's back so far; I think we'll have another 30-40% just before the deadline, and will have to call the remaining 30% to get their answers!

We plan on delivering our first set of invitations during Easter in April and giving about 2 months for them to get back to us by end of June. That way we can send more out based on how many people RSVP as not attending and get those new RSVP's back in about 2 months which will be in end of August. That gives us the final numbers (hopefully) at the 1ish mark till the wedding. We may change it a little but not by much.

Yay! Congrats, such a big thing done! We're just doing email RSVPs, hopefully that works out. We're sending the invitations out next week, so we'll find out soon!

I actually have my wedding website through The Knot so I sent out my invite by mail and then they sign onto my wedding website and rsvp. It’s great because I get an email with their meal choice and their response but it also automatically tracks and updates for me on their app.
We mailed out invites in early November and set the deadline for January 15. We had to track down 5 people for their response after that date but we told them if they didn’t let us know by February 15 then we would assume they were a no so they all responded pretty fast after that.
We had a couple of people ask if they could bring a plus one and we told them that if we had space then sure and we would let them know, thankfully it worked out that they all could and they were all very understanding about waiting to hear back from us about it.

Luckily, we had all replies by phone or some by email. Because of my large family, I always kept in touch with them all and was told directly and meals were known based on individuals. When the invitations were handed out personally to the in laws and second family, instantly the answers were given immediately.

Locals were easy and knowing they would show up, just some didn't reply or show up because they didn't realize the RSVP date. One couple didn't reply due to a sudden health issue (friend) and another did let me know she had a fundraiser the same day not realizing she had done a lot for it. A close friend that I went to get my brows threaded was going to make it until she had to go for her niece's wedding the same day in BC.

Overall, the replies weren't bad and for those who didn't show up had something happened otherwise.

This is so exciting - Congrats!!!

We just sent our StDs, so we have a little ways to go before sending our invitations. We are thinking of sending our invites mid-May with an RSVP deadline of July 31st, for our September wedding.

We're mailing out our invitations but asking guests to RSVP via our website. I'll be using RSVPify and embed the form in our website (housed on wix.com).

Luckily, the RSVPify tool lets you decide whether guests get a +1 or not. So guests won't be able to add an extra person when letting you know they'll be in attendance.

We're hoping to be sending ours out Early July and will ask for RVSP's by August 15. That way we have almost 2 months to hunt people down/build seating chart. I'm hoping to get them out right after Canada/Independence Day and that people don't need a huge amount of time to decide if they are coming or not.

We are going to give the option of website RVSPs as well as mailed-in RVSPs since mail can be slow at times.

Congrats!! That’s so exciting, I’m still too early to send, but I’m going to watch this discussion for input for when I should send mine out. I’m sending out my save the dates super early! My wedding will be during march break so I wanna be sure my guests who work in schools don’t book a trip for march break before they know about the wedding! They totally can if they still want to ofcourse, I just would hate for my aunt to have booked early so get a deal and have to cancel it or miss my wedding. She would be disappointed. But for the invitations I’m unsure, since it’s mid march, do I wanna do November-December or October so it gets to everyone before Christmas starts, I feel for me once Christmas starts it’s like time flies next thing I know it’s February when I feel back to normal at work with clients and everything, I don’t wanna be waiting to the last minute for RSVPs..

So thank you so much for this discussion! It will really come in handy for me during my deciding.

I can’t wait to send our invites! My goal is to have them out by the end of June and then our RSVP deadline is September 1st. With it being sent out in the summer we wanted to give our guests enough time to respond because we all know how busy summer gets.

Ive heard some crazy RSVP stories where the invite was addressed to 2 people, but they said they were bringing 4 and ended up bringing 6! Nothing like a great surprise for the bride and groom. I do not get where people think they can bring whoever they want!

We used AppyCouple for save the dates and invitations. Our RSVP deadline is March 1st and we’re being firm with it. So far about 50% have confirmed their attendance. My FH, parents and I will be reminding guests this week to RSVP.

Congrats!!!! Sending out the invites was super exciting for us too!!! And we were so nervous haha! We sent out invites in Jan, our wedding is May 24, and due date is May 1! We invited 275 people and we have had 109 people accept and 9 people decline so far! Our first acceptance was sooo exciting!!! And the few declines have been a bit disappointing but hey! That's why we give a yes or no option right! Our only potential struggle right now is we have a few people accept who we gave a plus one too but they aren't sure yet if they will have a plus one... so we have a few spaces in limbo right now but it's not a huge deal! All in time still have a ways for the deadline!
