Quote from florist - i almost passed away :')

Sarah, on June 18, 2020 at 17:42 Posted in Plan a wedding 1 46

Hi lovely people!

I just had a florist provide me a quote for $4000 - apparently this is her minimum booking fee? I legitimately almost passed away. My wedding is in a small town in SW ON. Max 50 people, wedding party will consist of 2 bridesmaids and 2 groomsmen. I'm only going to have 6 tables at my wedding; I'm envisioning a pretty minimalist look, lots of greenery. I was hoping $2000 would cover flowers/decor, design, set-up, etc. for a relatively small wedding. Am I just really ignorant or is this a lot of money for what I'm asking?

Thanks for your reply! I actually finally found a florist who quoted me about $1000, which I'm comfortable with!

That’s absolutely ridiculous. I am located in Ontario and am getting TONS of flowers and my quote was $2800. We ordered 8 bridesmaid bouquets, 15 boutineres, my bouquet, 6 corsages, a welcome table bouquet, garland type flowers and greenery for the head table, 4 wine barrel toppers, 10 centrepiece bouquets, and 10 centrepiece floating candles bases which are just flowers and greenery with floating candles intermixed.

I don't know if it has been mentioned here before but I was going to go with Callia Flowers for the bouquets/corsages/boutonnières. I found someone who can do it for the same price in a small town though. Callia Flowers is really pretty and super reasonable! I was very happy with the "trial" bouquets I ordered. They also have bud vase centrepieces that may work really well for you if you like that look.

ETA: I saw you are doing greenery which I was originally going to do too! My (cheaper) florist quoted me $5-10 per foot based on type of greenery selected. Too bad Costco online isn't open because they had some really nice garlands when I looked. Perhaps your local store would have them to order in?

Hahaah I am only having 90 people and the first quote I got was $13,000! I almost had a heart attack. So I started to shop around, and found that $5000 was recurring quote from other florists.

Wow, that seems very high!! Are any of your relatives, friends, bridesmaids families crafty? One of my bridesmaids moms is actually gifting me all of our bouquets and boutonnières for the wedding. She's going to buy flowers in bulk from a wholesaler and then do them up. Just something to consider to keep costs down Smiley smile

I would have fallen off my chair too! I had very reasonable rate from Raindrops on Roses Florist. Her name is Chi and her work looks stunning. I met her at a wedding show and while I am actually not going to go the florist route, I would have hired her for sure if I was.

That quote is absolutely insane! We got an amazing deal by going through a local family owned floral distributor. This place has a florist on site who does weddings (incredible work!). We are paying approximately $1,300 (including delivery and setup) for the following:
    - 10 bouquets ( 1 Bridal, 1 toss bouquet, 5 Bridesmaids, and 3 Flower girls)
    - 12 groom boutonnieres (1 Groom, 6 groomsmen, 3 ring bearers, 2 Fathers)
    - 2 corsages for mothers,
    - 13 centerpieces,
    - 2 buckets of flowers for the alter.
A couple of tips to keep the prices low...
    1)
Choose flowers that are in season. For example, peonies in the spring are going to cost you a lot less then they would in the fall.

    2) Use the bouquets to decorate your head table after the ceremony.

    3) If your ceremony and reception are in the same location, you can have the venue move your ceremony florals into the reception area, and use them on the receiving table, cake table, gift area, etc. If you aren't in the same location for both, see if a family member or friend can move any florals from the ceremony to reception location.

Thats insane i would NEVER pay that amount. go to a local costco and get from there. also i only spent $60 on flowers. i got mine and my BMs bouqets on aliexpress.com and i got a ton of decor on there for less than $300 and we have a 200 person wedding.

That's high for a minimum order. Looking around for quotes elsewhere may be better to look into to see for a better deal on a smaller scale. Another option is going artificial rental to give that look and return after the event. The cost would be way below $150 getting everything you need for the day.

I think I just had a heart attack for you - Keep shopping girl.
I am doing fake flowers for my wedding as my FH is allergic, so hoping this helps!

I think $2,000 for the tables and bridal party you have should be MORE than enough. Possibly talk to your local florist instead, they may be able to do something for you.

Hahaha noo it's all good! Part of me really wishes we were getting married in NS, but most of our guests are in ON anyway so it's just easier on most people!

That strikes me a super high!! Especially if you’re doing greenery in lieu of really elaborate centrepieces. I’m paying just under $1200 for florals, which includes my bouquet, four bridesmaids’ bouquets, five boutonnieres, a cluster of flowers for our ceremony arch, a head table runner, and a spattering of eucalyptus leaves for 18+ tables! AND loose greenery for some signs, delivery and set up, etc.

I’d definitely keep shopping around ☺️ One tip re: greenery, see if you can buy it in “bunches”, rather than pay a “centrepiece fee” for each table. My florist quoted me $160 for four bunches of eucalyptus leaves (40 bucks apiece). She was confident that we could easily spread that over 18ish tables.

You better get a full comprehensive breakdown if she's going to quote you $4000. lol

My quotes for flowers fall in the $1500 - $2500 range, which includes ceremony flowers (silk for the arch, real for the aisle), floral decor for various tables (head table, guest sign in table, cake table), bride's bouquet, 4 bridesmaid bouquets, all the boutonnieres and corsages for immediately family members and groomsmen, and non-floral centerpieces for 20 tables. These quotes also include things like lanterns, candles and candle holders as well as delivery, set up, and tear down.

One tip I would offer, regardless of where you go, is to ask about silk flowers for backdrops if you're open to having silk instead of real flowers. For backdrops like ceremony arches and those behind the head table, no one ever stands close enough to them to properly examine whether flowers are real or fake and they look good in pictures regardless. Especially with things like outdoor ceremony arches where they're only used for an hour at most, I would not go all out for a fresh arrangement on those. Most decorators usually have a few pre-set ones in their warehouse ready to go and it's a fraction of the cost.

Ouch! I would have fainted if that was the quote I got.

Normally I would suggest Costco and some DIY but today I discovered they've taken flowers off their website. (I was not a happy camper.) I love AFloral.com for artificial. I had been planning to support local recently, but as I talk with local florists they're all unsure of what they can get shipped in and how much higher the costs could be by October. Now I think I'm back on the faux flowers bandwagon.

It was in canmore where venues and everything else is 30-40% higher to do anything. I decided to go artificial because of this towns quote.

That is crazy! I would have straight up died of that was me!
We ran into florists with minimum pricing too (though not even close to $4k!) while it happens, there are many more florists willing and happy to accommodate a smaller wedding. Good luck!

You'd think so, but her website says she loves elopements??? So I'm confused! I'm not quite sure what the fee includes, I let her know my budget so we'll see if she responds!

Considering she said her minimum is $4000, I think she only wants to do large weddings so you might as well look elsewhere.

Just wondering though, does it at least include centerpieces and backdrop?

I hear ya on that one! We're getting married in southern BC (Kelowna) and usually it can get up to 38 degrees in August. Of course we plan on getting married during the hottest month of the year lol I would hate for my flowers to wilt as soon as they get outside because of the heat and what not! And not to mention spending all of that money for nothing!

Plus you can find some amazing florists and their artificial flowers look and feel the same and real flowers!
