Planning a Wedding during the holiday season...

Natalie, on December 1, 2018 at 19:30 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 29
I’m sure many of you can attest to this, but Christmas has absolutely snuck up on me and I’ve been racing to create lists for people’s presents, put up the tree etc. while trying not to be selfish and buy everyone a gift card and some candles.

Is anyone taking king some time away from wedding planning to partake in Christmas planning? Or just not really feeling it this year? I’m finding it so hard to shell out money on gifts while saving for this! I’m sure people around me understand that I’m going to have to be frugal for a bit but nonetheless, I wish I could bypass every holiday until after this over. Smiley xd

I agree on the bank account hating me for the next 7 months! haha

I see you are in Kitchener. not sure what you want for flowers (simple or extravagant). but when I was in a wedding in Kitchener. my friend got the flowers from zehrs (I want to say the erb street one...but don't quote me). and they were beautiful. she wanted really simple. mixture of white daisies and carnations. wrapped in white ribbon.

We aren't doing all that pre wedding stuff either, despite what the family says.. I just don't want the headaches and we don't want to spend the money if we don't need too

I know with myself I am personally putting wedding on hold until after the holidays, with the exception of the deposit for the officiant. That being said, I feel my bank account is going to hate me from Jan until August. I am giving us 8 months to pay everything off, our 3 major vendors are good with monthly payments. So than we just have flowers ( I still have no idea what we are going with) and decor (most borrowing from a friend) and thank you gifts. I am hoping that we can give ourselves a month buffer before the wedding to not have any major expenses. Fingers crossed.

Ahhh don’t feel that way. Our wedding is small and we aren’t doing a lot of the pre wedding stuff like rehearsal dinners, bachelorette parties etc. We’ve tried to keep things simple. I would be way more stressed to be planning a larger wedding a couple of months after Christmas.

You'll get it done! I feel like everyone on here is at least somewhat on point with their planning or else they wouldn't be here. You've probably done a crap load already and why NOT use the time and the people around the get things done? It's the season of giving, right? lol

WHAAAAT?! You lady, are insane... And I mean that in the best possible way... OMG that's going to be both stressful, and amazing, but it sounds like you're on the ball! Are you doing a Christmas theme? Oh, it's going to be beautiful. I hope everything goes smoothly for you!!

I do not know what I was thinking... Oh wait, I do... I wasn't. Haha. It didn't even click for me that I would actually be dealing with both Christmas and the final month of wedding planning at the same time until last week...

My mom thinks I'm joking, but I'm setting up an assembly line at her house between Christmas and New Years to make all the wedding favours...

OMG... only 6 weekends left to do stuff, and 2 of those 6 are booked up with holiday stuff.... eeeeeeeee.....

I've never really been a big Christmas person, the whole concept of it kinda irks me. BUT for gifts this year I'm getting into the DIY mode. I've been crocheting baskets and blankets, and making candles and beeswax wraps for all my peeps. I've also made a blend of tea for each of the people I'm gifting to this year with some of my excess. I'm getting into the hygge mode and focusing on coziness and love.

Helps that I can continue to wedding plan through the season. Lol.

I’ve been trying to handle both wedding planning and Christmas, and it’s a lot! We are heading to the mountains this weekend to go check out our reception room and have our tasting (our wedding is in April) then the weekend after that we have our families coming over for our Christmas dinner (over 25 people) all while my FH is working out of town Mon-fri! He hasn’t worked out of town in 7 years, and he started this week. Couldn’t come at a worse time lol. We have 4 kids, so Christmas is extremely important to us to celebrate! I thought we would go easy this year on gifts, because of the wedding... Nope. I think we spent more this year then most others. Lol.

I totally feel this, except I feel like I'm using Christmas as an excuse to ignore wedding planning. I have a strong suspicion that December 26th will roll around and I will deeply regret this lol

LMAO this is going to be my second Christmas since being engaged and it's definitely harder this time around. Last year we were newly engaged and hadn't started planning yet, while this year we are deep into deposits and wedding planning. Totally giving everyone a card and a hug this year lmao.

I get that. Me and my sister are super competitive with gift giving but this year I’m just gracefully bowing out. Lol

We don't really go overboard with Christmas, and this year especially my FH's parents and mine all agreed to go small because the wedding is 3.5 weeks after Christmas this year!!!

My brain is going to be FRIED trying to get all my family/Christmas commitments handled, along with ALL of the wedding prep that remains. Literally all of the final details, beauty appointments, trials, communications, shopping, DIY projects, etc... Even remembering my dentist appointment... It seems like it's going to be a LOT.

Just trying to write EVERYTHING down in my day planner, and accomplish at least one task a day!

I am so far into debt with wedding planning and Christmas. I love Christmas, I tend to over do it though. So now I have counting down the days till it's over and I can get back to paying for wedding stuff.

I'm definitely getting in the Christmas mood. but I feel you on also wanting to skip it too. hahhaha

luckily i'm usually pretty good on Christmas spending anyways. so it hasn't changed much this year. other than a couple of family members said not to get them anything so we can save it. which just warmed my heart.

I knew this would happen so this year we bought gifts for my FH's little cousins (1,3, and 8yrs old) back in early November and now we just have our close family who we have lists for (we drew names)! Definitely feeling like there isn't enough time anyway Smiley tongue

I'm not the only one!! I have my tree up but I don't feel like spending a lot of gifts because I want to save for the wedding. I have taken a break from planning for the most part, my save the dates are ready to pick up, but I'm not sending them out until January.

This is so funny because Christmas is my favourite time of year but I am soooo not feeling it this year and I'm so sad! Mind is so busy with wedding and work and buying a house... Christmas really snuck up on me too.... I'm actually planning for focus and try to get Christmas presents done today so I'm less stressed about it and can focus back on everything else hahha!! I'm not even decorating my apartment this year and I'm just like... WHO AM I????

I took most of the month of last year! My birthday is also in December so it gets busy with family, work parties, and my birthday. I could not imagine throwing in wedding planning as well! It was nice to get a break as well.

I’ve somehow spent less on Christmas this year than any previous years! Not sure if this is subconscious or what! A lot of the Black Friday deals helped as well.

I completely agree with you. Thank god I don’t have too many people to buy for. But I’m trying to go for more sentimental gifts instead of spending a lot of money.
