Music?

Kimberley, on January 12, 2017 at 12:21 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 21

OK I'm a little lost here. We are not having a dance so I really just need to decide on what to have playing while I walk down the aisle, during the document signing, as we leave the ceremony ,as we enter the reception, during dinner.... We are having a very small wedding (if everyone comes there will be 12 guests), weather permitting the ceremony and pictures will be outside by the lake and mountains. The reception is at a golf course. Any sugestions would be great!

I am walking down the aisle to "This Year's Love" instrumental by David Gray and first dance "Broken Arrow" by Rod Stewart (both songs personal for us as a couple. For dinner, you could have whatever you would normally listen to at home with company playing softly. I am doing this for the small dinner at my wedding with a mix of blue rodeo, acoustic tragically hip, some CCR, Mumford and Sons, Lumineers etc just as a playlist from my phone. That way it won't be silent but still conducive to conversation and ambient.

Haha you should do it for your entrance song (at the reception)! You could always do The Piano Guys version of the song...

I know I would be the only one who would think of it. Every time it comes on the radio we comment on how beautiful it is and then one or the other of us will say why don't we use this song...and then one of us will remember Twilight...but we might still use it. It would be easier if we had "our song" but the closest we get is singing Hooked on a Feeling at the top of our lungs at each other....not very bridal Smiley laugh

I wouldn't worry about anyone else! It is just me and my FH who would think of that and if I was at someone else's wedding I wouldn't care! I still may use it because after our first date we proceeded to spend the evening texting each other while watching Twilight on TV and laughing about it's flaws.

The church we are using has extra fees to use the organ or sound system, so I asked my BIL if he could play acoustic guitar or violin for our ceremony... my sister says he is putting something together for us... since we are aiming for a short ceremony we decided that instrumental would be better than songs since the average song is 3.5 minutes long.

Wow great question! I only thought of the brides walk in song but hadn't considered any others! Another task to add to my list! I love the idea of using songs that mean a lot to you. Be it your FH or your bff. I think it makes it a little more special

Haha see I forgot it was even a Twilight song honestly! Just such a beautiful song and her voice is beautiful and so I would hope people wouldn't say anything about it.... I hope they would just be too busy looking at me in my dress coming down the aisle and think wow!

I love that song! I keep thinking I want it for the first dance, the only thing stopping me is the Twilight associations and I will probably be the only one who thinks of that. It is an exceptionally beautiful song.

Thanks Emilie! I like everything from the 70s to today. My FH prefers 70s and 80s. I would like to use Lost Together by Blue Rodeo for one of them. We are gettIng married outside on a sun deck over looking the lake weather permitting!

Hey Kim! I could suggest so many things! Smiley catface What kind of music are you into? What style are you going for for the reception? Could this be your style?

Etta James - A Sunday Kind Of Love

    Can't Help Falling In Love

I thought you might also like to take a look at these discussions for ideas:

Haha thanks. Whenever we hear the song we both immediately think of this... so it's become a running joke between us. Absolutely no one else will understand why we find it hilarious... but it's a fun song to enter anyways so they don't have to get it

I love your "enter reception song" hahha! We are putting our faith in our dj for during dinner music as well. My FH does want some Christian music to be played and so I think for us we will put that in during dinner but mix it up with other normal dinner music.

    Love that song Chelsea!

I agonized over the ceremony song choices and now looking back I'm like "wait, did they actually play anything?" Haha I would say if there's something that speaks to you and has meaning, use it but if not, just pick a nice song you both like and don't worry about it too much.

Groom's Song: No Man is an Island by Jack's Mannequin (Both my husband and his brother used this in their weddings which is nice)

Bridesmaid Song: The Way I Am by Ingrid Michaelson (I probably had the hardest time with this song and I think this one ended up working well. I was also thinking of using Hey Soul Sister by Train but we used it in our slideshow and I didn't want it twice in a row. My sister also recommended Wannabe by Spice Girls which I love but just wasn't the vibe we were going for.)

My Song: Come What May from Moulin Rouge (My all-time fave movie and one of my all-time fave songs. I'm assuming they played it but I was crying so much down the aisle that I have no idea!)

License Signing: Rhythm of Love by Plain White T's or Kiss Me Slowly by Parachute (can't remember which one we chose)

Recessional: Universe by Punchline ("our" song)

    Some other songs suggestions:

Loving You Tonight by Andrew Allen

    Love Somebody by Maroon 5

She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5

You Are Loved by Josh Groban

Such Great Heights by Postal Service

Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Callait

    Choose You by Sara Bareilles

Closer to Love by Matt Kearney

I think it all depends on what style of music you like. Are you into country? Do you want something traditional? Upbeat? A song that has special meaning for you and FH?

    I personally am doing:
Walking down the aisle: A song FH wrote for me

    Document signing: TBD

Leaving the ceremony: Boom Clap by Charli XCX

Enter reception: Turn Down for What by DJ Snake and Lil Jon (a joke with FH and I)

During dinner: DJs choice... I put my faith in him on this one

I still have to figure these things out myself! The only one I really know is I want to walk down the aisle to Christina Perri - a thousand years! So I look forward to hearing what other people are doing to give myself some ideas. We are having a dance and everything though but I definitely need ideas for the same things you need!!
