Mobile hair and makeup artists

Katherine, on March 3, 2017 at 13:40 Posted in Beauty 0 4

Hello,
I am going to have a hair stylist and a make up artist come to my house the day of the wedding to do my hair/makeup as well as my four bridesmaids. I was wondering for those of you who have had this done in the past, how did that go for you? Was there a good flow to the morning, was it awkward having people come to your house? I'm worried about the hair dresser, if she needs to wet our hair will she be able to use the kitchen sink? What should I have prepared for them to make the day go smoother? Towels for wet hair, entension cords for curling irons, that kind of stuff?

Hey Katherine! How are you? I'm so happy to read you in here! Smiley heart I think that's a really neat idea! Did you already find your makeup artist and hairstylist? You could ask them what material you have to provide on your big day, they might already have those if they're a mobile service! I'm leaving these ideas of hairstyles:

    Hairstyle: 2017 or 2018?

    Hairstyles trending for 2017

    My favourite hairstyle

What stye is your favourite? Smiley smile Will you wear an updo or loose hair?

Ours was a destination wedding so we were at a hotel to get ready instead of at home. Our hair and makeup artists were a mobile service and I think it was so much easier than having to travel to them! I would make sure that you have somewhere with enough space for them to work and lay out their supplies and easy access to outlets. If you have power strips available, I'm sure they'd appreciate it. (though they should probably have their own as well) If you have bar stools available, those work great for doing hair and makeup so they don't have to bend down too much. (We actually had some brought up to our room from the bar downstairs!) As Val mentioned, everyone should have dry hair without any product and they just do the styling so there should be no need for towels. I would recommend washing your hair the night before and not putting any product in it.

I'm sure it can be a little strange having them in your home so make sure that you choose people that you are comfortable working with! Don't be afraid to speak up if there's something you want changed! You don't want to look back at your pictures and wish that they'd fixed someone's hair. We had one hair stylist who wasn't at the hair trial and she wasn't as good as the girl I worked with. (They decided to add an extra person so that we would be able to get everyone done in time.) She had a hard time with my sister's hair but I talked to my other stylist about it and she was able to fix it after everyone was done. It looked so much better and my sister felt more confident because her hair wasn't messed up. I would have hated for her to look back on all the pictures and regret how she looked!

    Hey!

I've had people come to "us" when I was in bridal parties before, and it wasn't weird. They are pros who are used to dealing with their mobile studio, and will bring everything they need! You could have towels on hand, but I doubt they will be washing your hair or wetting it down- it is much harder to style when squeaky clean!

Ask your Vendors if you should have anything available- they will probably say no Smiley smile I would just sugget having a clear place for the hair stylist to set up near plugs with a table to lay things on....and a table and chairs near a window for the make up artist. Windows are good for natural light, and make MUA's job easier.

If it is early- share the coffee- Othewise, just enjoy the pampering!

I'm using a mobile and I had them travel to me for the trials, so I got a feel for things. They are pro and you can just ask them about the timeline, they will know how long they need and the kind of space they need to do it in. I would try and have an area with a table a chair or 2 and as much natural light as you can get (best for makeup application)! If they need access to a sink or anything, the kitchen should be fine, but they will let you know if you need anything else. I didn't find it too weird having them in my house... only that because they felt like guests in my home I kept wanting to host them (offering food and drinks and asking if they needed anything). They mostly just chuckled and politely declined, but the host in me was fighting it's way out wanting to go get them water and make sure they were comfortable. So that was the only remotely awkward thing for me HAHA Smiley xd

As for preparations: No one should have wet hair actually. Hairstyles (especially any kind of updo) actually work best in slightly "dirty" hair, you should all wash your hair before and dry with a hairdryer and brush only (no product or straightening tools).
