Losing sight

Cheryl, on October 25, 2018 at 08:27 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9
Has anyone just lost sight of what they wanted their wedding day to be? All this planning, pinterest, youtube diy's, all I wanted was a super simple, intimate wedding without all the bells and whistles and now I find myself thinking I can make these, I'll do this, add that, I'm just lost in wedding planning and eloping is sounding pretty good right about now

I'm literally where you are like every other week. I honestly do one week of planning, one week of break. It's been working out pretty well now. I was so overwhelmed with planning for months that I honestly burnt myself out and needed space from it.

And you're not the only one who thinks about eloping!

Honestly I get it in waves but I’m over it pretty quickly. My fiancé and I both work in retail environments with varying hours and so we don’t get a lot of time we’re both home and we want to do other things, so I’ve been trying to keep everything pretty simple so we don’t have to worry about it.

I actually think I had this big elaborate plan in my head before getting engaged... and once I started planning I wound it back like crazy... we picked a venue with natural beauty/decor, so for the most part it's turn key, and I'm just adding the little extras I want.

I think if you're starting to feel overwhelmed or taken over, you could do a reset... and make a list of your "must haves"... everything else can be based on your time and budget for what you want to add.

Not losing sight! Changes and compromises for sure! Im more the opposite! I want EVERYTHING but I know it's not logical so cutting things away here and there needs to be done!

I also wanted simple and so stopped looking at pinterest! I knew what I wanted and so didn't look at any other ideas because I didn't want to cloud my mind! I also took a bit of a break from wedding planning a couple months in to get my vision back in my head.

I lost a few deposits because I went from a big local wedding to a destination wedding in the Rocky Mountains. We still have about 60 people coming and it’s going to cost almost as much as our local wedding of 130 people. I wish we would have just went to Mexico or even Vegas lol

I haven't lost sight. but the crazy VOLUME of information that is out there wedding wise can be COMPLETELY overwhelming.

I recommend take a week or 2 break from planning/going on WW/looking at pinterest etc etc. don't look at ANYTHING wedding related.

after your "vacation". talk with your FH. and each of you or together, make a list with "must haves", "really like", "would be nice to have but don't need". and go from there.

and make your decisions on that after. go with your must have and budget. if it doesn't fit in those it goes in the maybe/revisit pile.

don't add the bells and whistles if you don't want them. honestly. it won't be worth the headache/money if your heart isn't in it.

good luck. and reach out to this community. they are awesome and helpful!

With Pinterest/you tube and other social media, I find it very hard to lose focus. There's stuff I thought I didn't need but now it's the latest trend and I want it lol!

Sometimes I take a step back and picture *our* wedding - not the one on Pinterest. I imagine the simpler decor/DIY and everyone enjoying their time and being too busy to care about how the decor isn't fancy. Granted, there are some DIY projects that I like, but would not fit in with our wedding.

I think I always knew that I wanted a big wedding - so that would be hard to change. However we have seen people here on wedding wire that have even put deposits down for a medium to large wedding (100-250) and then decided on elopement, so it wouldn't be the first time. Do what you think is right! Try and categorize everything to see what you and your S/O want out of the wedding. Start with the atmosphere - venue, then food, then who you for sure want to be there for when you say "I do". If it's small enough maybe a small little wedding of 50 people is right for you and you would still be able to make some DIY for it without it getting overwhelming.

Just remember - we are here for you!!
