Let's talk guest dietary restrictions

Joey, on November 16, 2017 at 08:05 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 12

Being a good host means taking care of the comfort and needs of your guests. A big part of this at a wedding is accounting for their dietary restrictions and preferences. But this can be tough to organize! How are you asking your guests to tell you about their restrictions? Are you hiring a caterer that specializes in a certain type of cuisine? Have you had any especially unusual requests?

Our RSVP didn't have that since i had only 3 choices: kids, non-veg and veg.

I am putting a spot for dietary restrictions on my online RSVPs.

We are asking guests to email us with any dietary restrictions they may have so that we can ensure that we give them exactly what they need.

That is so thoughtful of you. I recently attended a wedding where they were serving pretty much only meat, while they were aware that some guests do not eat meat.
We will be asking in the RSVP for dietary restrictions and allergies.

We had a questionnaire on our RSVP form on our wedding website that asked guests for their restrictions. We had vegan, vegetarian, diary-free, gluten-free and some food allergies. We were able to give this list to our caterer and he worked with it. We were not able to completely satisfy everyone but they knew what foods to avoid. Our caterer even went so far as to make 6 vegetarian mains as he doesn't like it when vegetarians only get to eat sides instead of "real" food.

I am one of those people...I can't eat gluten and dairy. We are having a buffet, but some of the items are already dairy free and gluten free. There are a couple vegetarians coming which may be the only issue because currently, the vendor does not have a vegetarian main dish--some of the sides are.

We requested allergies/intolerances as part of our RSVP and then passed that info on to the restaurant to make sure they could prep in advance to accommodate.

We asked for people to list allergies or dietary restrictions on their RSVP cards so we could pass this on to the caterer - they specifically asked for us to do this to make sure they were prepared.

On our wedding website, when guests were sending me their rsvp, we asked them to let us know if they have any dietary restrictions so we were able to let the venue know ahead of time.

My FH has an aunt who is severely allergic to meat. Meat cannot even touch her food. We will let the caterer know this. We are having a buffet and when we selected our food items we made sure there were enough non-meat items.
