Inviting guests outside the province

Michelle, on January 29, 2018 at 00:30 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 13

Hello,

I'm planning on inviting guests outside the province and wasn't sure if I should provide for their night stay the day of the wedding or for their full stay in the city [eg. 1 week in the city in a hotel/motel].

Open to any suggestions and ideas Smiley smile

We aren't covering costs but we are booking a group block of rooms for guests out of town and for those that don't want to drive home the night of the wedding.

We aren't covering costs for those coming in from out of town. If we did that, we wouldn't be able to get married. We provided guests needing to book a hotel room with a discounted code. If they want to be at your wedding they will find a way to make the finances work. If it doesn't, then they won't come. You don't need to cover this cost. We have people potentially coming from California and will not be covering their accommodations.

I had family from U.S. and they had booked the rooms for 2 days.

Are they staying the day before and after the wedding? Have you considered?

We are having some American, some Greek, some Danish and some English guests, as I lived in Europe all my life. So because of the distance they have to cover, we are paying for the hotels during their whole stay. And then we only have a friend who will be travelling from Ontario, so I thought it would look bad if we did not pay for her hotel room, although she will travel from away as well, so we are also paying for this

We are paying for the hotel after the wedding for our parents, bridal party. For the guests we arranged a discounted rate with a few hotels close by.

Absolutely don’t have to cover out-of-town guest accommodations! Everyone really did say it, reserve a block of rooms at a discounted rate. Depending on the number of guests you are expecting from out-of-town, you could book blocks of room at various hotels/motels that suit different budgets. ALSO, maybe provide a small welcome gift to those from out-of-town?

    Good luck!

Everyone else has hit the nail on the head. You don't need to pay for them, but do block a set of rooms that you'll most likely get at a discounted rate.

I did that and put the information on the save the dates. People from out of town might not know the area well to figure out where to stay.

You could also give them suggestions of things to do while in the area. I also am inviting our out of town guests to our rehearsal dinner as well. Just so we can do another dinner with them.

I agree with what's been said- you don't need to pay for their stay but getting a group rate at a hotel close to your venue would probably be appreciated!

You don't need to pay for their stay. I would recommend blocking some rooms at a nearby hotel. Typically, if you block rooms your guests can get a group discount so it would be a bit cheaper. I have many out of province guests coming as well and we will be blocking rooms at two different hotels for the weekend. If they decide to stay longer than that, they can.

I don't think you need to pay for someone's stay to attend your wedding. Everyone at our wedding was from out of town since we didn't get married where we live and we didn't pay for anyone. Your budget would most likely explode if you were to try an accommodate all those costs.

Reserve a block of rooms at a local hotel for your wedding and you will likely get a discounted group booking rate. You can then let your guests know about the discounted rate and they can stay there.

We have a lot of guests coming from out of province... Probably almost 50 out of province guests on our list...

We booked a block of hotel rooms at a discounted rate but each guest will be responsible for the coat of their own travel and rooms.

I don't think you're obligated too but if its in your budget I'm sure it's definitely welcome! You can ask a local hotel to reserve a block of rooms for your guests & they might offer a bit of a discount for them. If you do provide for their stay I would suggest renting a house instead for that amount of time.
