Hello Brides,

So many questions, I'm over thinking right now.

Does anyone know how old does the item have to be for it to be considered the something old?

My mom who's no longer with us has a ring that she has had for as long as I've known her, and in the middle it has a blue sapphire, it would be perfect for the something old and blue, kill two birds with one stone type deal, Pun intended, or does it all have to be separate items for it to count? I'm assuming the ring is at least 40 years old or 45 if she's had it since my brother was born.

Have any of you combined these popular superstation traditions?

Thanks Carine, I miss her for sure. I also have thin gold bangles of hers that I could wear if the pearls don't work.
Happy my comment sparked an idea for you.
I'm excited for both of us to get married!!!!

I love that, I do have a pearl necklace that my mom's grandmother gave her, if it goes with my dress I my just wear that as well and save money on jewelry I will never wear again because I don't wear that much anyways.

Thanks for the idea. I almost forgot I had it.

Sorry for your loss, I'm excited to get married, sad she is not around to see me get married. Smiley sad

I'm with everyone, don't believe there is a date stamp on how old (I'm old depending on who you ask lol).
I'm hoping to wear my mom's (who has passed) pearl necklace, as long as it goes with my dress.

I'm starting to see this, this seems to be more of a tradition than superstition.

I think this day in age anything goes tbh. Do what every makes you happy on your wedding day. I know some brides aren't even doing the whole something new something old etc.

Okay so it doesn't matter as long as the item means something to you. I was putting way too much thought into this. New dress for my new life as husband and wife, something old and blue my mom's ring who is no longer with me, the blue sapphire in it is her and my dads birthday stone and the month of September stone, since we are getting married in September the ring has more meaning to it now.

Something borrowed the fact that my mother in law loves me enough to lend me a piece of her jewelry means even more to me.

I am in the same boat. I am wearing my Mothers blue stones bracelet, necklace and earrings which she had since I was child. I have decided to use them as my blue and old, my dress will be new, admittedly I am not sure about a borrowed item yet

Thanks Amanda, I know it's a silly superstation but I have enough bad luck, I do not want to add more if I can help prevent it.

I don't think it has to be a certain age. What matters most is you wanna use it as your something old. You can use one item for two things as well. There a no right or wrong answer. It's your wedding, use what you wanna use!
