How does your veil attach to your hair?

Stephanie, on April 19, 2018 at 01:28 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 10

I am wearing my mom's veil from the 80s, so it has this (now tacky!) lacy headpiece which is what keeps it on your head. So, she is taking that off but now wondering what she should use instead. I had suggested a comb, since I want it to attach at the top of my updo. She thinks that won't be strong enough since it is cathedral length and is suggesting a head band. My questions are, 1) how does your veil (specifically cathedral, but any length too!) stay on your head 2) where on your head are you planning on wearing it and 3) what is the length of the comb (if it uses a comb!)

Some pictures so you can get an idea what I mean.

Yeah my mom has the same on her veil with the hoop/crown (whatever you call it lol). My veil though has a comb. I'd bring it to a seamstress just to make sure you don't ruin the fabric. But that would be just my opinion in that situation.

I don't have a picture with it on from the front. Maybe my friend does though, but the headpiece is lacy and there is no lace on my dress at all so it really didn't match! Plus, I think my mom already detached the veil from the headpiece! I also want the veil to start where my updo is, not from the front of my head as it would've with the headpiece or headband.

My veil is pretty light, it’s fingertip length and uses a comb. I think most of my hair will be down, I want one side to be pulled back maybe with a hair piece and my veil just sitting on the back/top part of my head. I’m still waiting for mine to come in or else I would post a photo of the comb sorry I only have pictures of it on my head.

The cathedral length veils I've tried on all had combs. I think if you get a good quality one, and it is sewn on properly, you'll be fine. Depending on your hairstyle, get your stylist to secure it with some extra pins.

    Beautiful veil btw.

Mine was just fingertip length and I had it attached with a comb. My hair stylist actually used some bobby pins to help secure it, since I attached it at the bottom of my up-do. I think a comb would work with some bobby pins in to secure it. I do love that headband though!

Controversial opinion here, but I LOVE that headpiece. What does it look like on?

I had a two tier fingertip veil and it was only held on by a short comb, I had no problems with it moving or feeling insecure. I've also heard, but never personally tested, that metal combs hold better than plastic.

I also wore my mum's veil from the '80's but was lucky that her headpiece was separate. My veil was on a comb (I am guessing about 3 inches long) and was just put into my updo where it could easily be taken out later.

I believe mine is also roughly around 3 inches long as well.

How long is the comb? My mom did find one but it is only three inches long and not sure if that would be strong enough. I also think it might be plastic so maybe I should see about getting a metal one.

I also have a cathedral length veil and it has a metal comb. My hair will be half up which will allow for the comb to sit nicely in my hair. It will then be pinned in a few places with bobby pins to secure it in place but make it easy to take out of my hair later on.
