Have a wonderfull wedding with the lowest budget

Annie, on January 16, 2017 at 12:13 Posted in Before the wedding 0 12
Hi! Im Annie and I want to get married so much because it's my dream. The problem is that we dont have that much money and Im not into big wedding that cost so much that its gonna ruin us for years. I wanna make it possible to get married with the lowest budget without necessary looking like crap. I want to create the illusion that its all big and everything. I'm a good artist so I can make a lot of thing in the decoration by myself and I want to create my own playlist of music. So if you got other ideas to help me create this dream I would be really happy! (Sorry for my english I talk french usually but I can do both)

Wow Kelsey! Amazing tips for someone having a smaller wedding! (My family's huge and I would only find banquet halls to host that amount of people!) Your dress is gorgeous! It's so wonderful that you have so many family, friends, venue spots, floral, etc. available to you for help, certainly is a bonus! Pig roast sounds awesome! I probably shouldn't have read this before breakfast! Smiley smile I've been to Nanaimo! It's so beautiful there! Congratulations!

Hello! I have several tips. My man and I are having a 92 person wedding and our budget is $6000 and so far we are under! That is the total budget and the only thing not included is the cake as my parents are buying that for us (it came to $500).
Here is how we saved money and time:
    1) venue - the ceremony will be at my.mom's house and is absolutely beautiful. The biggest cost here are chair rentals ($3 each so $270 ) and we are using these same chairs later at our reception). We also went with a commissioner so she only charged $90 I believe. Other than that we are using some of the table center piece flowers for decor and bringing them.back over but my.mom has tons of flowers in her yard so decoration is a minimal. My step dad is also making a beautiful arch out of driftwood. Our reception is at a community hall and is only $450 and that included all the tables, (we are using the nicer rental chairs from our ceremony), serving dishes, tea and coffee makers, juice makers, etc It had cutlery and plates but they were so ugly so we are renting them.
    2) flowers - we have a ton of friends with hydrangeas so we are getting them all for free so we are just ordering some babies breath from the local grocery store for $30 and using Costco mini euro bouqets for our center pieces at $150 for 20, and we will have several mini bouqets left over to make the bridesmaids and my bouqet as well as use the hydrangeas.
    3) decorations - we saved huge here by renting our decorations from a party place and it will be about $1000 for linens, plates, cutlery, a beautiful lighted backdrop, lights, etc. The other nice part is we don't have all this crap left over to deal with and the company cleans it up themselved!
    4) DJ - we have a friend who is doing it for super cheap only $50!! But you could even make a couple iPod lists and go that route and cut the DJ all together
    5) food and catering - we splurged a bit here as we are getting a pig roast ($700 for the pig and cooking it) and my man and I both fish so will be catching fresh salmon the week before the wedding and serving that, alongside some bulk salads from Costco (they have so many delicious ones!). We are hiring someone to tend bar and help cleanup and put out the food, etc so they will just have to put the food out so no big deal. We also make our own pickles and mustards and bbq sauces so we are just getting some nice buns and will serve this with the pork
    6) booze - we are making jello shooters (yum!), And will get a keg of popular mid like beer. We also just brewed our own wine at home - we are making 40 bottles, 20 of Merlot and 20 Reisling so that only cost $60 for the wine kits. The keg is $150 to rent and serves 100cups so more than enough as I don't think most people will be drinking too much. I think we might also have a 40 of rum.and a 40 of gin to make rum and cokes and gin and tonics. Then we will have some juice boxes for kids and some pop for those that don't drink. Overall we priced it out and it'll be about $350
    7) photographer - I lucked out here and got a really good deal as my friend is a photographer and does wonderful work so I'm getting him at $1000 for the day which included our engagement photos and the memory stick with the photos on them! My other friend is a videographer and will be shooting the ceremony as s gift to us.
    8) hair and makeup - my bridesmaid is a makeup artist and will be doing my.makeup and my sister is a hairdresser and is doing my.hair so 0$ here. I might get a manicure but we shall see!
    9) my dress is got for $200 from mod cloth and it's gorgeous! Im a plain Jane so wanted something basic but glam. See picture! (That is not the colour the bridesmaids dresses haha we are doing blue, just saying!)
    10) party favours - we make tons of jam so we picked a bunch of blackberries from.the back yard and bought some mini mason jars and made personal jams for everyone so cost about $60 to buy the jars and took a few hours to can and collect berries.
I really opted out for things like catering (except the pig), limo, crazy accommodations, expensive reception area, and expensive flowers. I think it will take.more work especially the flowers, but I have such a creative group of friends and family I think it will.be awesome. I will show you some pics when it's all said and done if you'd like to see for yourself what $6000 gets you Smiley smile

Melissas points are great as usual! The other new thing I heard about was floral sharing. So if you get married on a Sunday , the venue can try and hook you up with whomever is getting married on the Saturday. If you like their flowers you can offer to split the costs and use them for your wedding the next day! I think it's a great idea , but my problem is I'm too particular and know what I want in my head.

Melissa has awesome advice. My 2 cents are (even though we don't have pennies lol), is also consider a weekday wedding (if possible) and/or earlier/later time than "the norm"

Melissa nailed it!! The biggest cost is usually the catering, so keep your guest list small. You can also get some beautiful pre-owned dresses. Check buy and sell groups like Melissa suggested, they are great for decor but also you'll find people that say, got a dress and then changed their mind, so it's not even been worn or altered! Shop sales! Even when I'm doing my DIY projects I never pay full price for any of the supplies (Michaels coupons are the best, just make your FH go with you so you can each use one).

You can get a sheet cake at Costco or a grocery store bakery and just have the caterer cut it in the kitchen, no one will know the difference and it is INSANELY cheaper

    Hi Annie!

Your english is great! Much better than my French would be (I would embarass myself if I tried!)

I totally understand what you mean about having a lovely wedding, on a small budget. My wedding is on a medium budget, and i have been very careful about where I spend my money. Make a list of the most important things (food, dress whatever YOU care most about) that you will "splurge" on, and a list of things you can do without (favours, tons of fresh flowers)....

I would suggest that you consider your guest list first- how many people would you like to host? And also consider how much you and your fiance can afford (like you said, no debt, no credit....what can you pay?) and then cut your list if needed (sad but true).

You can find lots of great venues that are reasonably priced, and BBQ smokehouses can usually provide a tasty meal for a smaller cost than a "fancy" plated dinner elsewhere. Try to think outside the box!

You really can make decorations yourself for a minimal investment, keep an eye out for coupons and sales, or Facebook and Kijiji for other brides selling used decor! If you look around the chats, you will see Valerie does AMAZING DIY projects! Paper flowers could helps save money, since you are artistic, and even your table numbers and any welcome signs could be done yourself.

I hope this helps! Please let us know how your planning is going, and if you need more tips! We are all here to help, and in this together
