Green or Red Light: Assigned Seating?

Cliodhna, on March 9, 2020 at 09:05 Posted in Wedding reception 0 25

How nitty-gritty are you getting with your seating plan? Are you assigning tables or going one step further by assigning seats too?

Are you green lighting this additional level of seating chart detail? Or keeping things simple?

Green light, to the extent of choosing the tables. People can organize themselves at the tables however they want during dinner. It was a bit of a necessity where my FH mother and father are divorced. They are friendly, but his mother and the father's new wife aren't....we want to give everyone a buffer zone

Am I allowed to say yellow light? Lol I need to reserve and assign seating for 1. For immediate family to be closest to ceremony archway/reception headtable and 2. Both mine and my FH's parents are divorced, so we want to strategically seat them so each side is not too close to each other. All other guests would just seat themselves wherever is not reserved

Green light all the way! I'm being strategic to get people talking and avoid certain dynamics so I will definitely be setting up a fully detailed seating chart!

Green Light and going all the way. We are having a served course, so we have to for meal selection. But I also think it's better for the guests and takes the awkwardness out of where to sit and with who. I'm going to try and mix up families and friends seating, so one another can get to know each other.

Green Light. We are assigning tables and seats because there is some people that don't really get along such as my parents who are divorced. So they are sitting at the table with immediate family but they will be seated on opposite ends.

    Green light!

We are very carefully seating our guests since there are a few small feuds among family and friends that we want to avoid during dinner

Green light. Our guests are choosing their meals in advance so we need to have assigned seats so the servers know what goes where.

Green light! I enjoy the formality and esthetic of it all, and with a big family it makes it easier to ensure everyone has a seat and is comfortable.

Green light! My parents are divorced and while I know they’d be fine, I don’t want to leave that up to chance.

Green Light - yup! Assigning it right down to the specific seat. It's just easier as our venue requires place cards with the entree indicator on it.

Red light on assigning specific seats. We assigned tables, but let people choose their seats at their assigned table.

Red light for us. We aren't serving a full meal so we won't have traditional seating. I'd rather have people mingle.

Red light. I don’t want to have to deal with any drama of someone not liking a certain person or people cancelling at the last minute. We don’t care at all where everyone sits. Especially since we aren’t having a formal dinner

If we had gone the BBQ route then we wouldn't have done any seating plan, but the caterer that we ended up loving and going with requires us to tell them where each guest is sitting so the servers know where to go with each plate. So ours has to be really structured and planned lol green light
