Facebook Groups Are Savage

Kathleen, on February 26, 2018 at 13:49 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 10
Is anyone else a part of Facebook buy and sell groups for brides? I’m in an Ontario wide group, and despite messaging about a product first (and telling the seller that I’d like to buy it), other brides jump in and snatch it from under me. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice?

I’m not one to message people to tell them they’re being rude by cutting in, but this has happened 15 different times, including on my own ISO post! It’s making shopping for cheaper decor nearly impossible.

Sigh!

The best wedding group on Facebook hands down is GTA Wedding Marketplace!! I have had so much success in there because the admins are super strict with the rules. Any other group I have been in isn't managed well. I'll post that I am looking for cake ideas and I'll get photographers messaging me. Go away! Try that group. Good luck!

Ouch! I'd be sooooo angry! I am a part of one but they are really good with sticking to their word about first come basis. I've found a lot of good finds on ours! What about just sticking to the one in your home town/city?

People can be awful! Luckily you found out before you bought them!

I reported the “piggybacking” on my post to an admin, but it didn’t stop the people offering me things from selling to them first. It’s awful.

unless it’s listed as a “first come, first served” it’s based on a line system. The annoying thing is that people comment first and someone PM’s them after, they’re more likely to see the PM first. It just makes this frustrating!

    ill check out Varagesale! Thanks!

I haven't experienced that but I have experienced people selling things for more than they paid for it. A lady was selling centrepieces for $10 each; I only wanted a few for accents. Turns out she had bought everything at Dollarama so it had only cost $5 to make them. (Found this out before buying them thank goodness!)

It sucks that people aren't being fair with first come first served. Not everyone can stay on Facebook all day waiting for a response! I think you should check the rules of the site and then report to admin if they are actually breaking the rules by not offering to the first person that posted. Or, if it's not against the rules bring it up anyway and maybe they can add it as one.

I heard of varagesale from here actually. I haven't tried it but apparently it's better than Facebook (as reported by those that had used it).

I would report it to the site admin if you can, they are there to enforce the rules. I'm part of these groups in the Calgary area and our admins are very responsive and will ban ppl if they don't follow the rules. I'm sorry this is happening to you.

Ugh that sucks. We have one here in Ottawa and it's not too bad but I have seen a couple cases of it. I find a lot of the time when someone posts interest after you they aren't actually reading the comments ahead of them to see if it's already claimed.

A lot of the brides on our site will mark items as SOLD PPU (pending pick up) and you usually have a day or two to pick it. I have seen a few that were first to come to pick up gets it. Maybe for ISO posts ask that anyone with items for sale PM you with pictures and prices and that way no one else will get them.

I try to keep up on our Facebook posts but as there are so many a day I find myself missing a few things here and there I would have bought if I caught them.

It’s so upsetting and stressful. I totally understand all brides want a bargain because weddings are expensive and cheaper decor is amazing, however I don’t think it’s nice to jump in and snatch it from someone else. I know part of the blame is on sellers not giving priority to the first person, but it’s so frustrating, and I don’t know how to handle it. I’m not the type to start world war 3 over some charged plates or an old ladder like some of these others do.
