Doing or Ditching: The "carry over the threshold" tradition?

Lynnie, on April 1, 2019 at 09:05 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 44

Are you going to follow the “carry over the threshold” tradition? This old wedding night tradition was another way to ward off evil spirits, apparently brides were extra vulnerable through the soles of their feet!

Are doing this tradition or ditching it?

Absolutely ditching. We're in our 50's. That would just be bad....

I really left it up to my FH where he'd be doing the lifting and neither of us are superstitious. I'm pretty sure his decision is Ditching as we'll be tired at the end of the night.

Ditching, we've been together long enough to avoid that

I'm confused too, had no idea this was a thing... and what it is? Anyone want to help me out?!

I don't think I'll be drunk, as alcohol and me do not agree right now but I can not guarantee my FH will be in any sort of shape to be *safely* carrying me!

Why would I ditch that idea that's one of the most important things in a Wedding. Mostly going to have fun because piggyback don't think the Groom can open the door without dropping me he'd have a bit too much to drink or laughing so hard. We both end up on the front lawn. Just saying

Doing it, because he wants to. I think we're staying at a hotel, so it will be over the threshold of the actual room, not the front doors of the hotel

Ditching it! I’m tall and plus size. Door frames are small and I don’t like to be carried.

I'm so confused by this... like does he carry you into the house? Hotel room?

Is it just where ever you're sleeping that night? I am half expecting us to both be stumbling into bed that night so I dunno if I want to deal with any carrying through doorways hahaha! Sounds dangerous!

Smiley xd I'm loving learning the reasoning behind all these traditions!

If we remember to, we will be doing this. But let's be real... we won't remember

So when we signed up for the gym in the fall we told them that we had a goal for me to lose enough weight and him to gain enough strength to carry me over the threshold. Whether we will achieve that is yet to be seen. We'll probably ditch it.

Ditched! It would feel super awkward, plus I'm self-conscious about my weight as it is.
