diy Photo Booth

Alexa, on December 8, 2017 at 14:18 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 16
Hi everyone - hope your planning is going well!

I really wanted to order an open air photo booth for our wedding reception but sadly it is not in our budget. Has anyone done a DIY Photo booth? Do you think we would need to have an attendant? Have you seen a "selfie station"? I am picturing just having a nice backdrop with a few simple props, and having people take their own photos.

Any suggestions or ideas or feedback would be gladly appreciated!

We're doing something similar! A polaroid guest book.

We have those mini poloroid cameras and we are getting props so guests can have a photo booth like experience without the photo booth costs for us!

Yeah I liked the idea of instant print outs with a wedding logo, but I'll be okay without them lol. We are going the hastag way as well, and we will also make a Snapchat story for guests to share on there.

I agree about the casual thing! No need for a formal photographer taking poised and posed pictures. Just silly selfies with a simple backdrop is my plan!

That's a good point, they will have a copy of the picture! Most of our crowd is young, so they will all have phones. We are going to make a wedding hashtag and a personalized Snapchat story. We are also going to do a Snapchat geofilter like the one in my bachelorette picture. (I'm not that in-the-know lol but my friends are foing to help me lol!) Our wedding website & app also has a photo sharing option. Hopefully we will get most of the pics via social media... hadn't really thought of that part!

I love the DIY backdrop idea! I was thinking of doing something similar too since it makes things more casual too ☺️

Yeah totally! It is so much more cost effective! You won't have pictures printed off instantly but you can go to Walmart and still spend less than some of the booths. I think we'll just have an Instagram hashtag and keep it simple that way.

I think using their own phone is a good idea. That way, they actually have a copy of the picture (something missing from the scenarios I had) and, it is a nice keepsake for them. Will you request a copy of the pictures from them?

My friends put this together at my bachelorette. It was nice to have a spot to take pictures and a nice backdrop for them. It was pretty straightforward and it got so much use, so it has me thinking positively that we can do it! Lol

These are food things to think about! Ours will be in the reception room so I'm hoping people will actually use it. I dont know if we will be able to provide a camera though... I was thinking people could just use their phones to tske a selfie or ask a friend to take the picture with their phone. Hopefully that will be okay. I'm not planning on putting too much money into it (going to party city to get some paper flowers and a backdrop and some props). I'm hoping it will work out but if not, meh. Thanks for the insight, those examples provide some things for me to consider!

Yes that's what we were thinking of for props as well. Awesome I'm glad it's not unheard of!

We are planning on doing a DIY photo booth but not sure if we will have space. If we do end up doing one though, we will probably build a wooden backdrop and buy props from the dollar store.

We are also thinking of doing a selfie station, with a few funny hats/glassware and so on. But still looking for a fun backdrop.

    I have a couple examples:

One friend did one and she had someone there to take the photos (her friend who is interested in photography.) There was no backdrop and she had hand made props. It was slightly disorganized because people didn't really know it was there (it was outside, between the ceremony and reception) and it hadn't been announced.

Another friend had the camera on a tripod and it was set to a timer. There were instructions on how to use the camera and it was set up in the reception hall. There was a curtain for the background and some props. It worked pretty well. Some people would decide to take multiple pictures in a row, leaving people to wait.
