Dessert table

Jenny, on November 6, 2018 at 16:27 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 6
I’m going to have a dessert table on my wedding, and I’m thinking to order a 2-tier cake.

Is there any suggestions as to how many other desserts should I include and what kind of dessert? I‘ll be expecting around 50 guests and I hope they can take the left over desserts home as favours.

Dessert was included in our buffet and the caterer had 6 desserts. 3 cakes and 3 squares. We didn't do a wedding cake at all.

I love dessert to a certain point and cake is great to see and wasteful at the same time, I can't tell you how many wedding I have attended where lots of choices are available and your wedding cake is left out for the most part.

The last wedding reception I attended was of my in laws who got married a day before us this year. We got married last year one day after. They had lots of food and limited dessert that their cake wasn't even cut when we left because it was a lighthouse that she loved the design of Nova Scotia. The variety of dessert included assorted squares, fruit and round chocolates. It was sufficient for all the guests.

My FH are putting about a 3rd of our budget into food alone. And we are doing a dessert table. Ive seen pretty standard tables have at least 5 options. 50 guests isnt a lot but you dont have to have a lot of each item but a variety is better in my opinion. We are having just over 100 guests and we may end up with 5 desserts and a cake but our menu design isnt for a few months. I will post photos then of the desserts I picked out. Smiley smile

Also “pops” are great for kids in terms of mess and they’ll be more cake options for adults. That is if you’ll be having children there.

    - cake pops
    - custard tarts
    - lemon meringue tarts
    - chocolate dipped or plain fruit
    - macaroons
    - cupcakes
    - cheesecake balls (or you could get the cheesecake pops for the cake pops)
    - candy (in selected colours) jelly beans are great for this

just save some dessert tables on Pinterest that you like and dissect them. Go from high sweet (cakes and candy) to low sweet (tarts and fruits)

50 guests isn't too much, so I wouldn't over do it. A 2 tier cake (if you're serving all of it and not saving a tier) would almost be enough on it's own.
I have about 100 guests, and we have a s'mores bar included with our buffet, so we are only doing mini cupcakes for the extra part. Normally they say 2-3 mini cupcakes per guest, but because we have 2 desserts, we are only doing 1 per. (108 mini cupcakes). I'm doing a 3 tier cake, 4" (to save), 6" (to cut), and a fake 8" tier so the cake doesn't look so small Smiley xd

I think an assortment of different desserts would be nice. You could even do the platters from Costco placed on some nice dishes and have plenty for everyone.

I'd have goodie bags out and ready so people know they can take desserts home.
