Cocktail reception invitations

Joanne, on January 18, 2017 at 06:43 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 20
We are having a cocktail reception instead of traditional dinner however there will be more food than a traditional dinner as the venue will continue to bring out food as it's being eaten. With this in mind, I want to convey the message on my invites that there will be TONS of food. I don't want people to think they'll go hungry at my wedding because its hors d'oeuvres only. Any advice on how to word this on the invite? I'm doing my own on vistaprint.

We've gotten so much positive feedback about how fun our wedding will be as a party instead of the formalities of a traditional wedding.

Great wording! I'm pretty excited to see other Brides doing the same style of reception as I am!

    Hi everyone,
I just wanted to update all of you and thank you for your suggestions. I've ordered the invitations for the reception. I used the heading "please join us for an evening of dancing, laughter and indulgence as we celebrate the marriage of..." Then under our names it says:Cocktail ReceptionSaturday May 13, 20177:30 pm
I listed our website for more info on the bottom
Then on the blog section of our website I noted that it is endless hors d'oeuvres and open bar.
The website was super handy. You can check mine out if you like

    Thank you again!

Thank you so much everyone! I'm going to go with Emilie's suggestion of the blurb as a header on my invites. Also, though I wasn't going to, I'm working on my wedding wire wedding website to let everyone know exactly what to expect. I'll post a pic once I complete the invites.

I love this idea! My personal favourite is "endless hors d'oeuvres"! Though if you put "...will be served after the party" I would assume I'm not getting food until later in the evening

    Hi Joanne!

It sounds like there might be some crossover between our wedding styles (at least the food bit). Check out the disucssion below- I posted the wording of my invites, and there were a few other great ideas from others too!

Choosing wedding ceremony separate category on invite/rsvp

I think as long as you say "cocktails and Hors d'oeurves to follow" people will know that a plated meal won't be included- BUT- if you want them to know it will be meal- amount of little foods I like Lisa's ideas!

Don't forget to post your invites after to inspire brides with the same question later! Smiley smile

Congratulations! I found this little blurb: The Hors D'oeuvres Approach

Using the term hors d'oeuvres is a fancy and elegant way to mention you'll be serving appetizers at your party. Begin your invitation by saying, "Join us for champagne and hors d'oeuvres." You can also end your invitation by writing, "Hors d'oeuvres will be served after the party." Guests will expect appetizers instead of a full meal.

You could use words like Endless Hors D'oeuvres, Illimitable Hors D'oeuvres, or you could say something like Join Us for Champagne and a Feast of Hors D'oeuvres!

    Hope this helps!

Yes! That is exactly what I was looking for but I would edit it to " a full stomach makes a happy heart, our wedding will ensure you have both" My invitations are from vista print they're plum with yellow string lights at the top. Our wedding is like a formal house party. Everyone will be dressed up but it will be lighthearted and fun.

Hi Joanne! Welcome to the community! That's such a great idea! What is the tone of your invitations? Is it more formal or funny? Smiley smile You could go something like this: "Our hors d'oeuvres will be plenty so you don't get hungry". Or this proverb... "A Full Stomach Makes a Happy Heart... Our hors d'oeuvres will make sure you get plenty!". I can't wait to see your invitations! Smiley love What design did you choose?
