Ceremony and Reception

Keena, on January 29, 2018 at 10:31 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 5
Hey

So originally the FH and I thought to have a sit down meal at reception. Now we’re thinking of late night buffet so we can get away with inviting a few more people because it’s cheaper.
Now im getting frustrated as to when we should get married and when the reception should start.?
We thought to get married later like 4 and go right into reception but then that’s kinda to early for late night buffet.
Then we thought earlier in the day but are people going to want to stick around?
please help thanks

Changing your plans to to evening wedding.

If you start the wedding at 5pm and get the pictures taken after taking 45 minutes.

Cocktails at 6 - 7pm and Reception at 7 30pm. By the time you get through the entrance, first dance, cake cutting and speeches; it will be 9pm and late night buffet can start and dancing.

If that makes sense, you may have the timline set then and your guests enjoying their evening.

We are getting married just after 6 pm and then having a reception at 7pm. Our reception is also our ceremony place. We aren’t doing first look photos but our photographer said 45 min should be enough time to do photos as long as everyone is on the same page. I love the fact of an evening ceremony it seems very romantic.

I think 7 would be a bang on time. If you don't want to do first look you could still do that after too.

I agree with Stephanies comment. Getting married earlier in the day and then having people wait, isnt a great idea. Guests never like waiting more then an hour. We are getting married at 4, 20 min drive to reception, our cocktail hour starts at 5, and dinner seved at 6:30. By getting married at 7 like Stephanie suggested, you can still have a smooth transition, where no one is waiting around, then you have a good flow into your late night buffet.

My cousin did this; they had the ceremony at 7pm and then apps started around 8. They did almost all of their pictures beforehand, so they could start the reception shortly after the ceremony.

The later ceremony meant people had already eaten supper. They indicated on their invitations that appetizers followed the ceremony, so people knew not to expect a full meal.
