Bridesmaids with mixed religious backgrounds

Christine, on August 12, 2018 at 18:22 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 8

Hi everyone! This will be the first time that I will be posting on here. My closest friend is Muslim and she is delighted to stand in my wedding. Our only delema is finding a dress that covers her arms, shoulders, and back. Does anyone know a place that has a variety of dresses that are more modest? Or the ability to alter the dress? I'm open to other suggestions.

I was at David's Bridal once where there was a muslim trying on a strapless dress. She was just wearing a shirt of the same colour underneath it. The other ladies didn't have the shirt underneath but the dresses were all the same. It worked for them and was what the bridesmaid was most comfortable with.

I agree with the others. Places like David's Bridal even have some younger looking "mother of the bride" options that come with more full sleeve/back options, or a jacket, or bolero.

You can search online for more full coverage dresses... but it will be a limited selection.

Yes I have. She said she could figure it out. I have seen her wear something with long sleeves that looks like a body suit. That could work.

Have you talked to her? I'm sure this is not the first time she's running into the need to make something more modest than it is. I have seen some brides alter a wedding dress with a white fitted body suit, giving full coverage - this would certainly work for a bridesmaid, too.

I would look for a dress that would look good with a jacket or shrug. The other option is to have their dresses custom made. But that could be pricey.

I would say that the best option is to buy a standard bridesmaid dress and she can wear a cardigan or wrap to cover everything.

That's a great suggestion or look for a full gown style with sleeves.

I work in a bridal store my suggestion is because there's not very many full coverage options to get some extra material and make her a jacket!
