Bridesmaid dresses

Amanda, on August 8, 2018 at 14:21 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 9
Hi ladies,
I could use some advice.
I have 4 BM of all different shapes and sizes. I created a FB group asking them to look for dresses that they would like to wear. No on has agreed on anything and some are asking if they can wear different styles but same colours to accommodate their flaws and make them feel comfortable. My fiancé has said no to that and wants everyone in uinson while I am ok with it. What are some options or ideas that I can accommodate everyone. I have checked some websites like David’s bridal and I really don’t like anything. My fiancé has said they can’t buy their dresses online either. I am local to Toronto and Mississauga. Has anyone in these areas had some of these dilemmas and offer advice???

Not sure what style you're looking for, but infinity/convertible dresses are definitely a great option for diverse body types! BridesMade.ca has some really nice colours, and they're also available for rent which makes it sooo much more affordable! I was nervous about online too, but you can order a 'fit dress' to try them on before you order, and everything fit perfectly for us!

Annette's Bridal is great she has two different designers she is located in St Catharines Ontario prices are much more reasonable than Toronto or Mississauga.
The two designers are Bill levkoff and Mori Lee, I personally would tell them what color and what material and maybe a neckline or maybe a defined waist some sort of defining feature that brings all the dresses together though I have seen many Bridal parties over the years and usually as long as everyone is in the same color and same material they all look very cohesive regardless of the style.

Do you think he would be open to a convertible dress. It is one dress with like 6 different ways to wear it. davidsbridal.com/convertible-dress I think they had a few different styles as well, they would all be the same dress but they may be able to modify them so they are all comfortable.

I have been a bridesmaid in weddings where we were all the same dress, and very different body sizes and looked great. I've been a bridesmaid where the bride took us to Davids bridal and said these 3 colors and pick your style in long. well ended up all loving the same color. so we did that.

for me, I want same color, material, length. and they can have different necklines/fits. and in wedding photos. it looks amazing.

Why is your fiancé so against it? I think it’s great that he is involved, but every decision should be made by both of you. And, you should consider others when the decision involves them! What about having two different styles of dresses? Maybe the two smaller ones can wear the same and the two bigger ones can wear the same.
I had chosen a designer and colour and length and my girls chose the style. I had one choose strapless, one had one shoulder, and the other had tanktop-style straps. But, they were all the same colour, length, and neckline. And they all had ruching in the same area (a lot of his dresses had this). They still looked similar, even if they weren’t exactly the same. And, each of them felt completely comfortable in their dress and it shows in pictures.

I did the same thing and it worked out perfectly. Luckily, all the girls really loved the colour I chose, and I told them they could pick any dress from this particular brand (since they would dye the same and the brand had a lot of variety) provided it was floor length and did not have any sequins or sparkles. My girls are all different shapes and sizes as well. Smiley smile

I would also recommend this option if the girls are purchasing their dresses, since they may be able to wear the dress again.

Fiiiiirst of all... I appreciate fiance's having opinions and advice, but putting an ultimatum on matching styles or buying online? He needs to calm down... There are several websites (JJ's House, KF Bridal, etc) that have wonderful options for dresses, with even custom sizing (You send in the girls measurements)... which is actually more precise than the "best fitting size" at a regular store, and then alterations from there.

I'd really strongly suggest taking as many girls as you can into a David's Bridal... or if they are all in different cities, go to their own David's Bridals, and take photos. I showed my mom a photo online and she said "no way that's awful"... then when we were in the store, she stopped me to point out a girl trying on a dress and said "that one's nice!" and I said "that's the one you hated online"... So I do find the dresses there look better in person on real people than their photos.

I think same Fabric, Cut (length/sleeves) and Colour (exact colour), should be fine. Have slightly different waist lines or strap sizes is totally fine to make each girl feel as comfortable as possible.

Trust me... it looks WAY worse to have 3/4 girls looking uncomfortable in pictures, than one having a v-neck and one having strapless.

    Good luck!

Thank you this is awesome advice. Yes my 2 MOH are both bigger and my 2 BM or skinny. I was planning on shopping with them and not letting them do it on their own.

For me I am a bigger girl and would very much appreciate having the option to get something that suits my shape - at the same time, I'm the bride and would like some unison.

My compromise to this would be to do what I plan on doing and having them all buy from the same store and order the dresses in the same EXACT colour. On top of that I will be putting in the guide lines that the dresses should all be the same length (around knee length), can't have sleeves, and that none of them can have the same neckline as me (V-neck).

It seems like a lot but the other option for them is to all get the same dress which I'm sure they wouldn't like as much as picking something flattering that they could always wear again.
